Hi guys
iv had a squealing power steering pump for some time now, it makes the sound on full lock,
BUT...............
Today I decided to cheek the level of the power steering fluid, all was well there, spot on, so i was concerned that the pump was on its way out and another job of things to fix on my list, oh no i said,
But, I suddenly remembered watching a friend topping up a system, where the guy left the cap off the reservoir after re filling and then when and turned the steering wheel to pump the fluids into all the areas of the system. So that's what i did, I did 4 full locks in both directions,
1st lock gave me a squeal
2nd lock gave me a lower squeal
3rd lock squeal was gone!
4th lock the squeal was really gone and the glide of the motion of the whole steering rack was so much smoother,
but the fluid in the reservoir had dropped buy 2mm.
So yes folks, 2mm of fluid can make all that much difference to your power steering pump life action sounds and feel,
