What are my options? Cambelt Failure.

My Cambelt snapped on my way home from Holiday yesterday, I know I'm expecting a big bill regardless however as my engine (2.0 FSI Petrol) isnt exactly the fruitiest of Engines what would be involved swapping for a 3.2 V6 or 1.8T.

I'm reluctant to break the car and sell on as it's in really good condition, too good to disregard.

    Any advise welcome

Seen a direct replacement for £995the on ebay (they collect my old engine) but I fancy more power if I'm honest, the 2.0 petrol really lacks torque especially with four passengers and a boot load

I can vouch for the 1.8T 190 Chris.

Will you give it a go yourself?

I have the 190 BHP 1.8T quattro S-line, great engine and really tunable. I know you said you want to keep your car and put a different engine in, but in my opinion you are going to have to change loads of stuff, ECU, exhaust, inlet etc etc, it will cost loads to do, better off selling yours as a non runner (or trying to fix it) and buying what you want.

Yep, cheapest (=best) option is to sell as non-runner / break it, and buy a 1.8T engined car.

Although, it really depends on how much you want to spend. If you are going to go and put another engine in, on the hunt for more power, a 2.0T (k04'd) or something that wasn't standard on the B6 might be a good should (2.7 TT???).

Cheapest option of course is to just buy a new car though. Once everything is taken into account. Remember, engine swap to 1.8T will cost more to insure as well as just a straight 1.8T as its a modification.
    Looking for the right A4 Quattro. 1.9 TDI / 1.8T or 2.0T...

Yes mate, rebuild your own engine: 20 valves, 20 lifters, head gasket set, head bolts and a new cambelt kit + water pump, 5 L of antifreeze and a oil change and you should be good to go. Parts approx. £500-700 and 1.5-2 days labour, i reckon you could get it at about £1000 fitted ! If you wanna drop me a pm i could even do the work for you... As per Paul advice, stick with what you have and sell if needed for the right car/engine combo !

not so bad being a 16 valve, less valves to replace.
