    Service indicators

Just had my A4 1.9TDi Sport serviced (first service). After the service i checked to see how many miles to the next service (expecting to see 15-20,000 miles) and all it showed was --- for both miles and days. Is this normal?

    Re: Service indicators

Yeah, that's normal. It took a couple of days for the DIS to show it's new time/mileage service due estimate after each of my services. I guess it needs to monitor your driving style for a few miles (not sure how many miles it needs), before it can give an "accurate" guesstimate.

    Cheers,

    Matt

Yep, you'll also find the same when you collect a brand new car from the showroom. It's not long before a date comes up - a few days if I remember correctly.

    Re: Service indicators

Got car serviced around a month ago, was showing 13k miles but has dropped to around 10k but only done around 600 miles, probably due to the short journeys, have noticed the display does re calculate after every trip.

    Re: Service indicators

I've run three TDI's now (2x 150 Golf & 130 A4 Avant). Both Golfs got their first AVS at 18,700miles and the Audi is predicting.......you guessed it 18,700. Seems a coincidence to me. I'm not completely sure about AVS. Any one else had this?

    Re: Service indicators

I heard from a dealer, that the time between services is due to several factors, one being the viscosity of the oil, another being the freqency of the bonnet being opened (ie to check the oil)

Mine's 13k ish too, goes up and down, depending on how much I thrash it!

Re the bonnet opening thing ..... presumably the more you open the bonnet to check the oil etc, the better, therefore increasing the service intervals (??). So glueing it shut is going to mean servicing sooner! Guess its a bit like the old saying about dentists:

"A bonnet opening a day keeps the stealers away!"
