I presume he means the wastegate.
I believe the PD engine doesn't have a wastegate, but the non-PD TDi engines have.
BUT, I think it works in the opposite way to a petrol engine - but I'm not sure how.
The experts on the forum can take over now.................

Thanks for ur replies it's ok now had a little running problem and someone said it could be that wasn't working properaly

With a PD your problem if turbo related, and in line with an approximation of your enquiry, is most likely to be a seized variable vane unit due to carbon deposition.

Today when driving at low speed and giving it a little rev's and releasing the throttle i get a chutter noise. What is this?

I don't mean to hi jack this thread, but Ive noticed the same with my car (AWX). It makes a schu schu schu rather than the clean whoosh it used to. Is that normal?

Guys, anyone got any ideas what my noise is?

Its only started since i had my cambelt changed on wednesday. Now sounds like wastegate chutter... rather cool, but not sure if its right!

Mines the same since service, someone suggested a damaged hose but couldn't find 1.
