Needle Lift Sensor

an interesting error code came up today when i did a random code cheek on the engine
00542 = Needle Lift Sensor G80

What is it and whats that all about and how easy is it to fix? cant say iv noticed the engine not running right,

Iirc it monitors fuel flow in relation to output from the injection pump and calibrates it.

They cost about £300 + new ......

The wire can wear through on the front of the timing cover so I'd check that first.

is this the injector with the wire coming from it job?

also what your saying is teh cable may be cut at that point?

Thats the injector yes, the sensor is built into it I think. I've heard that a common failure is the wire being damaged rather than the sensor itself, although this wasn't the cause for me it's worth a look.

ok cool, will have a look at the wire, but i may be thinking the sensor as its not been changed before according to the massive service file iv got and the car has just hit the 208k miles range, so it may well be over due,

Had one go just over 100k so its just depends.Sourced one on ebay much cheaper
