    2006 AUDI A4 2.0T FSI Sport 2dr Multitronic Cabriolet

    Gentlemen,

I am thinking of buying a used 2006 AUDI A4 2.0T FSI Sport 2dr Multitronic Cabriolet 41,000 Mileage for around 13k+ and was just wondering if I need to be aware of anything?

I noticed lots of threads on people experiencing costly prolblems with Multitronic boxes
and must admit this is worrying me now... but I don't want a manual.

Any hints or tips or comments would be extremely appreciated and welcome?

    Thank you in advance

    regards,
    Steve

the multitronic boxes are usally ok if they have been serviced every 40000 mile or so, i have one in my 2001 a4 and its running ok.

with the milage that one has, its due now or has been done already so i'd ask the seller about it.

Are you getting it from trade. If so may be worth negotiating a good warranty into the deal thatwould cover the gearbox

Thank you guys for your input and I have taken your advice on board.

I have managed to get the price down to £12500 and the dealer is going to give me a 1 year warranty. I am also getting a very good price on my VW Polo as part exchange. I looked at the Audi today and noticed that it was last serviced at 37,600 miles but I will be calling the Audi specialists/garages to confirm what was done to the multitronic box.

I spoke to another Audi specialist today and he said Audi recommend that you should get the cambelt changed after 5 years on an Audi A4. The water pump should also be done at around the time the cambelt is changed. Wondering if this would be covered by the service at 40k which it has had at 37,600 miles...?

It's the silver version with blue roof which is probably my third colour preference after Dolphin Grey and Black. Wondering if anyone knows what the cost of a respray would be if I fancied one in the future?

Not certain about the B7 engines, but the B6's (and I think ALL Audi multitronic's up to mid 2007) will eventually need a £1500 conversion from 6 plate to 7 plate clutches... the biggest problems have been caused by the clutch system being unable to handle the torque, so the 2.5 and 2.7 V6 TDI's are the worst affected, with those getting mandatory recall. The the other forced induction engines (1.9TDI and 1.8T) were also more susceptible to the clutch problems than the 3.0FSI / 2.0's, but not automatically eligible for free fixes.

Don't be put off the multitronics - I know a few people who have had years of very happy driving with them, but so long as you're aware of the potential repair bill, which is a one-off replacement with re-designed parts, not a repeating requirement to fix something.

The service intervals on the 1.8T's were revised to 5yrs/75k, I think the 2.0T's are slightly less as they only have aroudn 5 years of history with those engines at the moment.... a friend chanced his 1.8T to 12years (alebit @ 55k miles), but I wouldn't recommend pushing it much beyond 5 years... if in doubt, then call the Audi dealership, they WILL document something like a cambelt change on a central database: otherwise it's only £495 for a 4-cylinder engine.
