Have recently had really bad smells coming from the Aircon of my 7 year old S4 - especially after start-up for a couple of minutes - what is the best remedy? Any advice?

Thanks

The BEST remedy is to visit Audi (or a similar ac specialist) and have a deodorising 'bomb' put in the air intake to sterilise and deodorise the system.

Another (cheaper) option is to buy some Wynn's Airco or similar and do it yourself. I did mine last year and it's still fine now.

I too have the same problem, how do you apply that 'Wynn's Airco' ?

usual method is to slide you passenger seat right forward and tilt it forward as far as it will go. you then pu your aircon on full on the recirculate setting then place the can on a towel behind the passenger seat and depress the button til it clicks. this jams the spray on and the aircon sucks it through the system. some you spray directly into the dash vents so double check the label of the one you buy.

I had a really persistent smell with mine and the advice I had was to try hot and then cold, then bomb it.... and also to run it on "ECON" without the aircon for some of the cycle as I was getting a surge of the "wet tramp" smell when I switched the aircon on and off.

I eventually got rid of it for 12 months + by running the car with heating on "HI" for 30mins+, then "LO" for around 15-20mins (i.e. until it's properly cold), THEN put the Wynns in there.... and once the spray is finished, pop the econ button in for the tail end of it all.

I've always found straight into the system to be the most effective. Take the pollen filter out on the nearside and with the fan on full (I can't remember the recommended temperature I'd need to check that) spray it into the air intake.

The can says there's enough for two treatments, but I dumped it all in in several long bursts over about ten minutes.

Popped to Halfrauds this morning & bought the 'comma' version of this product, £10 / 10 mins easy fix - happy days !

Mine was the same not so long ago, I used some Wynns by spraying it into the pollen filter holder but I didn't notice much difference. So I inquired how much Audi would charge to have it cleaned. £30 for the clean, wash/hoover, coffee and courtesy lift to work! Bargain, and the Air-Con smells so much better!:)

I saw on another forum that someone used dettol anti bacterial airfreshener.they sprayed it in to the pollen filter holder while heater on full blast and that worked for them.

Half can of fabreeze into the intake under the pollen filter and the other half in the car on recirculate worked a treat on mine. No smells since, well, other than fabreeze summer mist or whatever!

Aircon bombs can be had from poundland, since it so cheap i do mine twice a year.. smells lemon fresh, never bother with the old magic tree now :)
