Avant boot gas struts ?

Morning all,
Got a new set on order & seeing as I have never changed a set of struts I was just looking for a very quick "how to" guide. Had a quick look & there seems to be a cir-clip around the ball end, does this have to be removed prior to changing over the struts ?

A litle guideance would be appreciated :thumbsup:

Haven't changed any on an Audi before, but on other cars I've had, you've had to remove the circlip, then apply some pressure away from the point where it attaches to the balljoint on the car body and it pops off. Then in typical Haynes Fashion, refitting is the opposite of removal

They're easier to change with the tailgate up than closed.
