Well it's been a long 12 hour day and after several hour's looking and test driving the car aswell as a few phone call's to a few VAG specialists we managed to get a bit more out of the deal. We knew before viewing the car that it would need some new tyre's as my brother in law had already veiwed the car twice. I stressed to my brother in law after giving the car a once over that the car needed the following.

1, New disc's pad's front and back and new flexi brake hoses x4 (1 was noted on the mot advisory )
2, Oil & filter change , Also drop the sump for sign's of sludge build up and clean the oil pick up as this has never been done, also Air and pollen filter change (Oil was last change last july at a VAG independent )
    3. The coolant system has the dreaded leaking bleed screw (1.40 fix) and has had it for some time as there is a large pile of burnt coolant resting on the side of the engine block (My bother in law said ooo it look's like candy floss.) New coolant required.
The timing belt was done as agreed upon( timing belt is over 5 year's old) before he bought it at the last veiwing and after checking the paper work to see if the belt and tensioner and water pump had been changed i noticed the belt and tensioner had only been changed and NOT the waterpump. The dealer said the Indy Vag garage he uses said the pump did not require changing Bull **** i said.

Well after going over the car again i was 50/50 on whether or not to let my brother in law part with his cash. I used my paint depth gauge to get some reading's to see if the car had any extra paint added to it over the last 8 year's (all was good ) The car's body and interior is in very good order with only the odd scratch here and there and the leather has no sign's of damage to the bolster's, testament to Audi build quality.

The 19" wheel's are not my cup of tea but the wheel's to be fare had all been tarted up and all four had been refurbed (mobile Wheel refurb) as the tyre's had not been removed when the wheel's under went the refurb process.

Well after all the flaffing about we managed to come to a deal. Full no quibble warranty (Rac) for 12 months http://media.rac.co.uk/pdf/6071-rac-warranty.pdf. and road tax. My borther in law was then happy so after making sure all the key's plus the master were present we were off.

The spec of the car is good and the drive is not bad for a SE on 19's the quattro setup is as expected. Bose sound system CD/Tape, cruise control, Full leather, Arm rests front and rear , Fold down rear seat's. The drive home to S.Wales was nice and returned a nice 33.6 mpg at 70+ mph without any problem's i only stopped once to check the coolant level and topped it up. Here are a few pic's as reference to the above coolant leak. Total cost 5,800 for the car . I would think that another 500 (not including new wheel's) will need to be spent to get this car looking good and ready for GTI Inter's in june

Nice one Colin, you'll have to point brother in law in the direction of the "Engine Covers" thread!

It might be hidden by the glare, but does it have the quattro badge on the trim above the rhs of the glovebox? I couldn't see it.

Yes mate all present and correct. I removed the main engine cover to have a closer look at the leaking bleed screw. I will have the car looked at by JP Board in Bridgend next week and let them do what ever work it need's, my brother in law will not see it again for another 4 week's due to any repair's needed and i will need 2-3 day's to detail (1st stage correction)the car's exterior and engine bay. He will have to sell his Audi TT (180)now. I was suprised when i first saw it on ebay that it's 190 bhp Q with the BEX engine on a SE. I also notice water around the plenum chamber when looking over the car (Now fixed) I will ask him if he has plan's to buy the extra engine bay cover's.

I have just spent most of the day cleaning my brother in laws engine bay as it's was in a mess, now yesterday i started to clean out the old Plenum Chamber so i thought. As i was cleaning the engine bay area this morning i had a qwick look to make sure there was no water build up in this area, there was a huge amount of water so i downed my cleaning tools and went and grabed some spanner's to sort it out once and for all.

I removed the car battery and found the center bung/drain rubber from under the battery wooshh water gone, after a few more hours cleaning the engine bay i was happy enough so i thought it would be a good time replace the car battery. Now after doing so and a finishing my cup of tea i packed my stuff up and then reversed the car up the drive (job done i thought ). I went to lock the car using one of the two key's and nothing happend
I then tried the other key and the same thing nothing. I then locked the car manually i then opened and closed the car a few time's (read it somewhere) and the car's alarm went off so WTF is going on.

One off the key's is now working i have not yet tried the 2nd key . The car's battery was disconnected for about 2 hour's, any help or idea's on this and why would be helpful.

Colin there's a proceedure in the owners manual to reset the keys to the car. I can go out and get my book and tell you exactly what it is of you need me to.

    EDIT just been outside!

    1. Unlock vehicle.
    2. Press unlock button on remote.
    3. Switch on ignition.
    4. Switch off and remove key.
    5. Press Lock or Unlock button.

    That should help.

    p66 FYI.

Gavlar at PRD we use 100% Acid free product's and alot of elbow grease when it comes to the engine bay , many detailers will tell you to give the engine a qwick blast with a power washer as it will do no harm but i'm sorry i can't bring myself to do that. Use a nice ph neutral AP cleaner.

    Hey Guys,
This is the brother in law and firstly I would like to thank Colin for all the advice and hard work that he has put in over the last two weeks!! I really will get you pissed on your 40th and your wallet will be left at home!! I have had the girlfriend bending my ear about having two quattros and we are looking at buying a house ! so a third is probably not a good idea!! I will look forward to seeing what Chris at J P Broads finds when he does his thorough inspection, but whatever is needed will get done. I have already sourced a place in Birmingham that will supply a SS exhaust system and colin is advising me on some lowering solutions for my suspension. !! Look forward to seeing her when all the work is done and I suppose the final piece de la resistance will be PRD's detailing which from past experiece is A1 ****.

    Mick Mc
