Hi folks just a quick question,

I drive a audi a4 2.5tdi quattro sport b6.But i was wondering if a a4 2010 multi fit,paddle shift steering wheel will fit?Im not fussed if the functions work but will it fit and how? Any advice will help.:sos:
 
I'm sure it fits straight on as a lot of people get later spec wheels in their audi's, I've seen plenty of photos on the net anyway.
 
Yeah i have heard a few things about that.Is it easy enough to fit??
 
Im just thinking is it worth it or just sell them?I also have a s3 2006 steering wheel with no functions but still the duel airbag.
 
You could always do away with the airbag if your feeling brave (i.e don't connect the airbag) just to get the looks of a nice wheel? It'll just be like fitting an aftermarket mono steering wheel or something.
 
A4 B7 s/wheel have two air-bags built in,,, where as your car was designed for one,,, there is a way round it
if your willing to pay a company like HAZYDAZE to sort it for you, but doubt it will be cheap !!!
 
HazzyDayz did mine - they definitely connect up the main airbag. (LINK TO HAZZYDAYZ STEERING WHEELS) They are not chepa, but charged me the same cost it would have been to buy the steering wheel, control unit and B7 slipring.

I've seen a B6 Cabrio they did when mine was in that had the same Audi R8 steering wheel as mine, but with the paddleshift, so it is possible.

And ALL features can be made to work: right through to the SDS-High voice control, etc.

Feel free to correct me here as I'm not a specialist in audi airbag firing sequences, but from their description (and others on the net), the problems happen when people try to join the High impact single stage sensors in a B6 to BOTH stages on the later model (B7) two stage airbags: there signal gets split across the two and isn't strong enough to trigger either.

I'm not sure if any special wiring is required, but the way that it was described to me recently is that if the high impact part of the two-stage airbag is triggered (i.e. the only way that a B6 CAN trigger it), it will fire both stages in sequence regardless. I'm not sure if that is a feature of how they install them or just an Audi safely mechanism.
 
Does anyone know if the S3 flat bottom steering wheel fits on a B6? (S4 in particular). I test drove an S3 last night and the only thing i preferred over my S4 was the wheel!!
 
Ha! That's saying a lot for your S4 then! You should keep it!

I'd really love to get a flat bottomed s line steering wheel for my car, but I just can't justify spending £350+ for the steering wheel in the first place, and then getting a specialist to fit it. I don't mind getting involved in car electrics at all, but airbags is one thing that I wouldn't wanna mess with. Then once you've shelled out for that your looking at probably around, I dunno, £550-£600 just to change your steering wheel for a nicer looking one.
 
Correct that, after a quick look at hazzydayz, £930 for an 8E!! Then it needs an rns-e which would cost me another £400 quid ish! Mega bucks. The rns-e I'd be happy to buy tho.
 
The R8 steering wheel (similar to the flat-bottom RS4/TTRS wheel, but finished in leather) was €850+VAT two YEARS ago... and I still needed to get the other parts... but Hazzy Dayz were doing it (brand new) for about £800, it didn't seem too bad given it was taking a high mileage non multifunction wheel and completely upgrading it to have all the functionality that I wanted.... and it makes more difference to how the car looks and feels that ANY external mod.... just think how much of the time that you're in or around the car and you're looking at or holding the steering wheel ;)

No I totally agree with you mate, I think they look awesome! I'd love one, but sadly I haven't got that sort of money to get it done, I just try to talk myself out of it to make myself feel better that's all! :(
 
well it would work a a fair bit cheaper if you can still use a b6 air bag

let me know scott if you get a definitive answer to this as i may look to do what you intend to do myself
 
I thought the top cover WAS the airbag, so it's shaped and moulded for the centre of the steering wheel...

Doesn't sound like Audi to manufacture something that would make retro-fitting easier; I would probably have bankrupted myself for a B8 by now if I couldn't have changed the interior around on mine as easilly - I love the B6 front and the B7 interior (steering wheel mostly - which is the main difference)... but now that that's sorted and as much as I'd love the economy+torque of a 3.0TDI, it's stopped me looking at any other A4's... next hop will probably be if I need more space (A5 Sportback / A6 Avant) and the longer I can hold off for that, the better!!

this is a air bag of an audi a3 8p.. as you can see the orange an green wire coming out of the airbag itself are indicating that its a dual stage airbag.. single stage airbag has 1 purple wire coming out of the airbag.. (i had changed the wiring on this to fit to and audi a8 but ended up fitting an s3 flat-bottom)..

the shape on the airbag are totally different so you cannot take out the airbag and fit it into another airbag cover as u can see there are different shapes

if your confident and feeling brave you can use the only the airbag cover (which means you wont have an airbag) and your horn wouldn't work...

i have got 2 sline (3 spoke) with airbags and i have 1 r8 flat bottom with or without multifunction..
p.m me for more information..
 
urrm good idea but somehow you will need to find out which airbag would explode first and if the plugs are the same.. but its something i wouldn't risk tho..
 
yeap doable if u think about it.. just got to find someone with the b**** that wouldn't mind setting a air bag off in his face and empty out his pockets lol
 
I gotta give it to hazzydayz, they are pretty damn pricey, but they certainly know what they're talking about! Plus at the end of the day, if you seriously want a later spec mfsw, or flat bottomed one, then you can't put a price on you life if it depended on it.
 
The RS6 wheel is the one to have if you can hold of one. Unlike the S3, TTS, R8, S-Line wheels they have a slightly chunkier feel and more pronounced thumb grips, lovely steering wheels.
