    Engine squeaking when cold

Not sure if this is a silly question but my 1.8t squeaks when the engine is cold. What is this and what can I do to fix it?

    Many thanks

hi mate the most likely cause of squeeks on a cold engine is one of the belt tensioners . i had this on mine so i changed the alternator one way pulley that never worked but it turned out to be the auxhilary belt tensioner bearing changed this and the sqeek went away

just spray a tiny bit of wd40 on the belts if the squek goes away replace belt and maybe tensioner, thats if it is the problem, but that would be the first thing to look at

if you did not ask the garage to replace auxhilary belt components its very unlikely that they would of replaced them

i dont know the costs for your model . but for my 1.9 tdi the alternator one way pulley was Ł34.00 and the auxhilary belt tensioner was Ł 36.00 from GSF i fitted them myself if you are taking it to a garage i would have them fit both at the same time

I'd be interested to know if they are hard to fit as well as I need to do this.
