    Can't stop spending!

After booking my car in for a full service next week including a check to make sure it has no sludge forming, I thought i was bonkers for doing it so close to Xmas what with being broke enough! but you can't skimp on preventative maintenance.

So after reading on here a few threads, and remembering I said I would never buy HIDs due to all the errors people seem to get, I talk to my mate about them, and he recommends HIDs-Direct.

Long story short, just bought some!

    I am broke enough...

It's very addictive this modifying/improving thing! Dam it...

I got the HIDs-Direct CANBUS Slim Line Kit; great at 69.99 delivered and no CANBUS Errors or need for stupid plugin resistor fixes. Delivered special delivery next day. Superb. Glad i went with the 6000K as the 4300K my mate has look almost yellow white compared to the ice white.

Bang in some CANBUS Aware LED Sidelights and you the have look!

I have purchased this one AUDI Ultra 35w HID conversion kits - Xenon HID Headlight Upgrade Kits from HIDs DIRECT Ltd

    I presume it's the same/similar to yours. I went for 5000k bulbs.

Where did you mount the ballasts?

Also got some new numberplate bulbs as I am sick of the bulb warning flashing up until i turn dipped lights on!!

Mate I had those and I had problems with them note it says 99% of cars will work. The CANBUS aware PLUS KIT at 69 from HIDS Direct on eBay works 100% and the ballasts are half the size and fully digital.

I bought these ones (Single beam Canbus Pro HID Conversion kit - Xenon HID Headlight Upgrade Kits from HIDs DIRECT Ltd) - they don't use cancel blocks; the ones I replaced had these and sometimes I still got problems. I mounted them in the wing recess away from any other wiring as you need to avoid cables near the front crash sensors. This would and does cause ESP Brake warning error on startup. Trust me my old ones did this and I had to buy the resistors fix mentioned above to make my old non digital ballasts work most of the time without error. The B6 Crash sensor is the culprit and is triggered when the HIDS hog the voltage on start. This happens more often in the cold weather. - temps are a real pain.

The reason these are a tenner more than the standard is the Canbus aware ballast. It really does work. I paid 69 next day special delivery included. Id try and swap them for the CANBUS Pro kit.

The ones you have bought are the ones I had in for two years. I needed the blocks with these due to the current draw on cold temp starts when I flicked the lights the ABS ESP error and the speedo dosent work or ABS

I have had - 14c temp starts this week and no errors with the above CANBUS PRO KIT. I actually ordered the OEM bulbs but with the LED sides they looked after warm up yellowish. So I put in the old HID bulbs from my old ballasts that were 6K. They are a perfect match for my neighbours new 3 Series with OEM Xenons. I think the New OEMs are 5 - 6K as the 4200K look very yellowish compared with the new BMW and Mercs.

Yeah I got some canbus ok bulbs for the plates. They have numerous tiny SMD LEDS instead of a few. Again this tricks the ECU into thinking a filament bub is in. They have been in for over two years.

The tower type multiple led side lights also work in the B6 without the need to put in resistors.

I also LED'd the front rear and side indicators to get rid of the amber egg look. These did need resistors easy fix and the LED flashes like you'd expect instant on and off. they really look good. in fact the only bulbs on the car I have not changed is front and rear fogs for obvious reasons. Reverse looks great with White ICE LEDS.

I had it MOT'd at my local Audi (Tyneside) Centre with no issues.

I agree mate I hated light out warnings. Now the whole car has a modern light feel - no errors.

Cheers mate, have sent them an email requesting a change, and to have the 6000k bulbs. they are not back into the office until early next year so hopefully they pick up the email before posting out!

    Cheers again.

    Stick with 5k
going higher will loose you useable light on the road even 4300k is far from yellow light especially in projector lights ,
your choice at the end of the day but the output wont be so good and thats the whole point of upgrading .

The ones I got only came in OEM 4300 or 6K. If your going the LED Sides then 6K is a perfect match. And the upgrade is far better than standard halogens - The A4 has by far the worst standard lights I've encountered. Paul I was stating that the light from 4300 looks yellow compared with LED sides.

I've had the 4300, 5K and 6K and to be honest between 5 - 6 K there is not much difference to output. 4300 is the OEM choice but personal pref and the ice glow matches LED's. And I live in the middle of nowhere on unlit B roads for 4 miles before I hit any street lights.

You did right with the ballasts. Best thing ive done to my car was replace the non canbus ballasts.

Thanks for the informative post mate ^^^

Looks like i'll go with these ones too then. Single beam Canbus Pro HID Conversion kit - Xenon HID Headlight Upgrade Kits from HIDs DIRECT Ltd

I know its asked alot but just incase you fitted differently to others,

Where did you mount your ballasts? Did you need bulb holders along with that kit? and lastly did you have to do any drilling of the headlights to make holes/the like?

    Thanks

30 quid for a kit on ebay, mine give no errors at all been using for over a year now.

HID Direct are too expensive, and there is no difference in quality as all the kits are Hong Kong / taiwann knock offs.

    Agreed Paul20V

I bought a cheapo ebay set three years ago. bulb and ballasts lasted 7months and when the bulb went it was driving back from heathrow to newcastle at 2:30 am in the fog and rain. Also they used to flicker quite bad on start up. They were Analogue ballasts with Digital stickers on them. Paypal got my cash back. Fake Digital Ballasts! What next!!!

Also at 69.99 delivered special insured delivery from the uk with a uk based company providing the warranty. I know what id get.

The CANBUS PRO are Philips quality at half the price. I would recommend these CANBUS PRO any day of the week.

4300K is pure white, anything higher is blue - your friends "4300K" will only look yellow if (a) you put blue LED's next to them or (b) it's a "4300K" Halogen... my OEM's are 4300K and still look white next to my 5k LEDSs, which have an subtle, but definitely blue tint.

This is 4300K next to a filament sidelight:

Same 4300K Xenon next to a 5000K LED sidelight:

(yes, there are some slight exposure differences in the photo's as those were just taken with a little Canon compact)

4300K is OEM and maximum visible light - by the time you get to 6000K you're talking a hefty degree of blue light which affect visible light and your eyes' low-light capability, but if it's the aftermarket look you're after then I guess 6000K a reasonable compromise between usability and a statement. Even 6000K HIDs will be way better than pretty much any (legal) Halogen setup... one thing to bear in mind is that depending on quality: they will get more blue with age - the lower the quality, the faster they go blue.
