Ok so i am planning on getting some winter wheels, but what is the smallest size i can get for my car.

It's the B6 S Line. so does it have the 312mm front discs? dies that mean a minimum of 16 inches to cover breaks?

also just to confirm it is 5x112?

anything else i could look out for?

5x112 - correct

I would not go any lower than 16 personally - I'd even consider 17's.....

I've got 312mm front discs and the car came with 16"s as standard - as Chris says I wouldn't go any smaller, but I think the best priced range of snow tyres will be in 16" size.

312mm discs are the largest you'll get on an A4... so if you cater for those, you'll be fine: 16" minimum wheel size for those (OEM size on my car with 312mm discs).

I'd highly recommend the Vredestein Wintrac Xtemes (215/55/16) - paid just over £90 a corner from Merityre - really impressive on snow, ice and in water.

More range of tyres for 16's and less of a lead time: this year more manufacturers are actually speccing the larger rim sizes - last year the only people in the UK I could find who would do winter tyres over 16" were Pirelli Sottozero's (apparently very poor performance in the wet).
