Hi
Regarding a 3.0 Cab B6 Quattro Sport with remap done last year for 20-25hp more, which is great. However....

Just had my water pump replaced, as its bearing collapsed, so had the cambelt changed as well with tensioners and followers etc.

Whilst its a good runner with no hiccups and it does go like a 3.0, it does seem a bit down on power after the cambelt change (even my kids have noticed!) it just doesn't seem to really fly like it used to : it seems like its gone back to its 'factory' mapping. I can notice a difference.

The garage say they haven't taken off any maps as they can't do that - its requires specialist equipment they don't have - they only removed code entries in the memory to clear it all down.

Just wondering if the cambelt need time to 'bed in' or if the timing may be out a little, perhaps not allowing the valves to fully do their thing and let the engine breath. Car isn't making any strange noises or anything.

Anybody have experience of this or any thoughts.
Cheers for any advice or info.

I have my 1.8T mapped and just a few weeks a go I too had the Cambelt, Pump etc changed and when I had the car back later that day I swore blind it was down on power, after a few drives all the power seems to be back?.........

your cambelt is nothing to do with your map a 3.0 engine isnt as easy to time up as a 1.9 if the person who done it for you didnt lock all the cams and crank while doing the job it is really easy to set it up wrong. it sounds like your valve timing is out a bit that means the car could sound ok and idle ok but wheh u gun it it will be down on power.
i have done a few of these and believe me they are tricky to do if you havent done one before..

Did they do the diesel pump timing with vag-com after everything was back together. if its just a smidge out then it will be down on power also.

I'm not sure how the pulleys are configured on the 3.0, but on my ABZ engine (V8) the pulleys arent keyed onto the camshafts, and so to do a belt change you need various Audi specialist tools to lock the camshafts in the correct place to allow the timing to be set correctly.

Clearly some garages wont have these tools, so they'll bodge it by eye or by sticking some paint dots on and it'll be mostly ok, however it doesnt take much as you've found to "take the edge off" the cars performance.

If the 3.0 has the same unkeyed pulleys, then i'd suspect thats whats wrong.

Take it back and explain to them what you have been told also and if it comes to it they'll have to get it double checked at their expense by Audi themselves if its down to the tools required!!

logic tells you that its set wrong cause it wasnt doing what its doing before you got the belt done. like i say if it wasnt locked with the right tools theres a lot to go wrong. i would take it back and ask for it to be checked..

Cheers for the comments folks - I'll go and mention it to them next week.
Firstly Im gonna ask if they've inadvertantly reset my map to 'standard' somehow. I know when I picked it up the calendar had gone back to 2003 and all my computer settings had been set to zero's so I know the powers been off...just don't know how this affects the ECU etc.
I do know my 0-60 time is back upto about 8 seconds from just under 7 though!
If they haven't reset it (and it takes some good knowledge ans software to do) then its the timing that out and the'y'll have to re-do it.
Cheers all

A response to the question of poor(ish) performance.
My cambelt was done properly with all cams locked for the change and my map is still ok.
What I didn't mention earlier, and Ive just thought of this, is that my car was full of the new Shell Fuelsave stuff. Once Ive used a couple of tanks of Tesco99 or V-power all is a lot better now.
Maybe there was a slight 'bedding in' of the cam belt but I reckon it was mostly the fuel.
I'm gonna start another thread about Fuelsave to see if anybody else has had (or noticed) similar loss of performance.
Cheers all
Andy

Just like what happended to mine as above - it just took a little bedding in to let the car adapt itself back, but I've run my 0-60's since and the car is now 0.2 faster than before - happy happy happy!
