Hi people, i have just recently bought a 1.8 turbo and have a few question. I sold a Leon Cupra r for it so i know there will be a big difference in power but not sure if the MAF is damaged on it as it has got a k&n air filter and oil filter on it, and a blitz atmospheric dump valve. I am not sure if this has done it damage, i have bought a forge 007 p dv as that was fine with the leon, but what air filter would be best for it?

Also is anyone from the maidstone area with vag com that could have a look and see if anything is wrong with it.

I am new to the Audi game so not 100% on the way this engine works so any help will be appreciated

Anyway here is a pic of the little beauty :)

Hey there, het the blitz off it! It shold be running a recirculation jobbie, so pop the forge one on asap!

The K&N may possibly be making the MAF a little dirty so have a go cleaning the MAF first before doing anything expensive. If you look within the section (Audi A4 B6) Alan has put a thread about cleaning the MAF - this should help hopefully.

If your at Audi Driver International I can read your engine codes with my VI Monitor, otherwise just find a garage with VAG-COM, there will be loads, and offer them £20 cash and normally they don't mind

Yeah i thought the dump valve was bad for it, gonna try and get the standard air box back on i and clean it out, yes the car is lowered extremely, may be changing it to coilovers as its a bit high at the front than rear. Will get some more pics of it soon, i also want to know what bhp it is as i was aware that it was a 190bhp one but my insurance has come through as a Audi A4 1.8 T Sport (163) what does this means

Keep with oem air filter's as the after market one's have been proven to mash up the maf. Car is looking good drop the plate's and stick some pressed alloy plates on. is your car a 163 bhp model.

Well the bloke said it was a 190 but like i saidit has 163 next to it on the insurance which i am a bit gutted about, is there a way i can find out what it is?

Just checked it on the internet and it came up with Audi A4 T(190) Sport (4 Door Saloon), so it s a 190bhp one phew lol, also wht way does the 007p go? anyone got any pics of it on the car

You get to the DV from under the car, remove lower tray.

oh, i can see my dump valve its at the top of the bay??? maybe i should get some pics of it where it is and see what you guys think

yep 100% sure mate, its got blue hose coming off it which is telling me its in the wrong place, uh oh me thinks i have got myself into a bit of bother here, you dont think that hes has put this in here with the original one still at the bottom do you?

Only way to tell is check as mine is under the car (stock item). The last owner may have made it longer for the bling factor..

The engine code and power in kw will be in the sticker in front of your service book, or in a sticker in the spare wheel well somewhere, for a definitive answer.

A 190bhp 1.8t shouldn't feel slow really.

What wheels are on it? They look pretty big? If they are reps, then be aware that some brands weigh a ton, and that extra weight won't do performance any favours.

yeah maybe, i will have to have a look at where the blue pipe goes, knew i should have bought a standard one so i dont have to worry bout things like this, now i dont know which way i gotta put the new one one

Gavlar is you car an S-Line model or Sport..

It sounds like its had some DIY hosing attached. The DV is located behind the drivers headlamp at the bottom just above the undertray - you have have to take the undertay off to access the area (really easy to do). If you can get some engine bay pics on here i'm sure we can get you sorted! I did mine a few months a go and once I found it, it was really easy to sort. It sounds like the previous owner didn't know what he was upto with the wrong DV and re-siting it - once sorted your probably going to have a sweeter faster car! You probably already know this but the 0007 will not really give you any DV noise like the blitz - the K&N will increase the DV volume but if you put this back to standard with a 0007P as well you won't hear anything, however, if you want some noise still, Forge do a split R DV which can be used either quiet or noisy, so could be worth thinking about.

Oh, by the way, what colour spirng do you have in the valve? i think you need the yelow one

Well my Cupra R was pushing 260bhp so maybe it is just me it goes ok it just feels a bit sluggish getting there

When you do a check (in daylight) just check the oem pipes from after market hose's and just trace them back.

Yeah i know about this, i tried a split r and didnt get on with it, not fussed about the noise really, had that with the cupra r

It has the green one in it, on the web site it said that the green one was for standard and stage one

Ah well, compared to a rabid 260bhp cupra R, it will feel a bit more sluggish! The A4 isn't really a light car either.

My brother has a standard 225 cupra r, which feels pretty quick. My 1.8t quattro is remapped to 190ish, but doesn't feel terribly slow in comparison.

Check your service book sticker for the KW figure, a 163bhp would feel slower.

yeah i will, i think the two larger pipes that the dv goes into are oem ones which is confusing i havent had the chance to have a good look at it. I ma going to worry about this now, i knew something was wrong as when i let off slowly it splutters until its dumped all the air. The previous owner didnt put it on so i cant even ask him how it was done

Well i checked it on the internet sites and it says its a 190bhp so thats ok, just tryin to get to the bottom of the problem of the dv now

Gavlar don't worry once you have traced it back you can bin the other stuff and start afresh even if you have to buy some stock pipes from audi or a gmf store and then put what ever DV you want. O ya WELCOME to ASN.

Yeah i know its just trying to get to the bottom of it now :(, and thank u for the welcome and thanks for your help, you are going to be needed so i can get his problem sorted, shame your in south wales lol

Hi to make sure it is a 1.8T 190 it should have twin side mounted intercoolers, the engine cover should have a red T and so should the badge on the boot, Originally these engines were 163 but audi remapped them to 190. My V5 says 190 but when doing insurance quotes most come up with 163???? Hope this helps

Most insurance companies said mine was 163bhp too, and I know from the data sticker and engine code that it was a 150bhp...

I tend to trust Audi with these things, you would hope they knew how it left the factory?!

Gavlar. Keep an eye on the local meet's section for your region and major event's. The next major event and one of the best is Audi Inter's on the 9th of October at Castle Combe ASN have a large club stand there so stick your name down if you want. ASN attend most of the major show's..

Yeah I may have to do that. Ifi do there will be someone there to help me surely. I haven't done the show thing for a while as my old club with the seat was a bit crap lol. Well I hope all is well with my dv gonna try and have a quick look this morning

Wonderful!! Driving to work and a coil pack has gone. So booked a day sick and I am gonna sort it. Plus the dump valve looks like it has been taken off from the intercooler pipes???? Not sure bout the blue hose it has yet. Will get some pics up later Also the dump valve on the car only has a one large pipe going in the bottom and a small(blue) hose coming out the top and my forge 007p has a large pipe going to the bottom and the side and a small one to the top. Whats the deal with that:uhm:

Its a Recirc valve so it will have the 2 large pipes and the small one that fixes to the top of the valve!
You got the curse of the coilpack already! Buy a couple and keep them spare in your glove box...

The small top hole should have a vacuum line attached to it I think.

Get some pics up when you can, meantime I'm sure I can dig out a PDF or two to show what hoses should go where. What engine code is it?

Right its a BEX just took some photos gonna upload them now, thanks for all your helpp your amazing on here

Right my dump valve is currently down the front on the right in this picture

This shows where the large pipe is taken from which from what i can make out is the hose going to the intercooler

and this is the blue hose going on to an OEM hose which does look like its meant to go to the bottom of the car

What is goin on here??? I dread to think what he has done with the hoses under the car. This may explain why i feel its not running as fast as it should be

My glove box doesnt open this is another thing i have to sort out lol not looking good, what have i got myself in for

Grr! I've not seen one there before?! But I'm not too technical! You may need to get a specialist to sort it (possibly) because it appears a fair bit of work has been done DIY. I could be wrong though....

Just thinking out aloud, if I were you, go and get your faults codes read first and if anything comes up get the codes listed on here for advise before spending loads of money on replacement parts etc - these engine have a habit at times to not always be what you think and the problems could be something much more simple

Had the fault codes read all it had were the coil packs and a steering sensor is out so it's goin for a four wheel align. But it is turning out to be an expensive day as I am having 2 tyres fitted and found it has a cracked wheel!! I am dreading the 4 wheel and what they will find. Also my tray under the car appears to be held on wit cable ties.

I'm gettin a bit worried now

Suger, I'm feeling bad for ya, but I'm sure once you have these bits sorted your going to have a great car. Thats a good sign though about the fault codes - the last time I had some I had about seven off them!!!
