Running Lean and bad Idle problems after remap

Had my car remapped at custom code and ever since its had a bit of a rough idle, sometimes too high and sometimes a bit lumpy. I suspect the extra boost may have blown something to bits...

Every so often the ecu light comes on with 2 codes

16891 - Idle Control System RPM Higher than Expected.
    P0507 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded

17544 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add): System too Lean
    P1136 - 001 - Upper Limit Exceeded

    Looking at these posts

    Dodgy Idling - 1.8T
A4 Cab 1.8T running lean and over revving help - Audi Forum

Says its the crank case bleeder valve.

So i went into audi to buy a replacement but the guy had no idea how to look it up and printed me a picture off.. great except ive got no idea where it is on the diagram.

I have uploaded the diagram - this should be the correct breather system thats on my car as i know they changed it around abit but this was done off the vin number.

Can anybody give me a part number or just point out what number it is on the diagram?

I ahve found this on ECS
    Audi B6 A4 Quattro 1.8T > Search > Bleeder Assembly Valve > ES#7940 Crankcase Bleeder Valve Assembly - 06A103245F

But it doesnt match anything on the diagram that i can spot

    Thanks

Haven't had mine remapped but have the 190bhp 1.8t BEX engine version of the B6 A4 and mine is displaying the same symptoms. Have replaced the breather valve which is towards the top of the engine. An 02 sensor and today tried a new MAF but made no difference in fact made things a little worse, so swapped back think it was a cheap Chinese part not BOSCH?

Still no joy runs rough when idle at 800/750rpm then if you rev up it started to hang at 2000 rpm for like 5 secs or more without touching the accelerator? Can drive around fine but really want this sorted.

Only code showing was Running too lean fault code whilst engine management light is on. Showed also ptoetnial misfiring whilst idle but when revved up shows no trace of miss firing all the way through the revs?

    Any help would be great.

the part is Audi B6 A4 FWD 1.8T > Engine > Intake > ES#5957 OEM VW / Audi Breather Valve (PCV Valve) 19mm - 035103245A it fits in the bleeder valve assembly, worth buying this aswell as the rubber gets very hard and will prob break when trying to get the valve out

6 is the valve that goes in 5 !!!!

Your prob is deffo crankcase breather valve. To prove it let your engine run for a minute and try and undo your oil cap, I bet you cant !!

The breather valve you changed wasnt the UFO shaped plastic thing near your bulkhead was it, if so that is your pressure regulating valve, not crankcase breather valve

Thanks for the link but that part says its for a FWD audi and mines a quattro! It also says they split in 2003 which im not really sure what it means. Mine ends in 006021

    - edit, is that part 67 on my diagram then? Its like the hardest game of wheres wally ive ever seen this is.

the valve that i think was replaced is like a circular black plastic part that sits towards the windscreen at the same height as the engine cover connected via multitude of pipes etc. The turbo blew on me about 6 months ago and ever since i have had this problem, i had the oil intake pipes and oil pump replaced as a precaution given the notorious problems with the 1.8t engines on audis/vws relating to not enough oil feeding the turbo. ( my choice, not garages) does these get involved with the part you are suggesting??

I will try and take off the oil cap this weekend thank you for your reply, will leave answer as soon as i know.

The part at the back of the engine you replaced was the pressure regulating valve, the fault that you have breaks these valves quite quickly due to the pressure put upon them, you still need the crankcase breather valve, very cheap 10

It doesn't matter what wheel drive you have, we are talking engines, not drivetrains !!

Audi have printed out the wrong document for you

I have enclosed the correct one, no6 is for you as before (035 103 245 G)

Cheers, ill ask my mechanic friend to check these both out in case the part we have replaced is now broken again. Just tried to open the oil cap after a 20min drive, i was able to unscrew it and pull off then i replaced it, just a few seconds later though i was struggling to turn it nowhere near as easy or to pull off, the engine did make some noise as though air was being let to escape (almost like a valve opening?) this was probably the valve you mentioned coming into play, however it may be struggling at times due to the fault you have described with the crankcase breather valve.

Is this what you were trying to describe?

I read on another thread elsewhere where you had replied that you had to pay nearly 600 to find this out?? Is this because you went through a load of different options before working this out? Thanks once again for your help. Nice car my the way, would love a Cabriolet version if i didn't have the kids!!

I paid 600 as it went to 3 different Audi/Vag specialists, none could fix it. Then I bit the bullet and went to Audi, the master technician knew straight away what the problem was, the parts were 30-40 with valve and T shape rubber hose and labour about 200 !!, I went through 3 of the PRV (back of engine plastic dome) over the space of 6 months whilst the fault was active, usually you just get the lean engine and revs higher than expected fault, when the PRV goes you get the pressure drop between turbo and throttle valve fault aswell

I see what you mean, Audi normally charge up to 100 an hour round here so i can see why it cost that much on labour however could i just double check the part number if you have it? Will i need the t shaped hose also? Is it part numbered 6 and 5 on the diagram above on the thread?

Also if my pressure readings are abnormal would this indicate a new plastic dome part also at same time if so may need part number for this?

Private message me your VIN if you wish so I can 100% tell you the correct parts. Audi should tell you what is what

    035 103 245 G = BEX ENGINE (FROM ETKA) (Home Page > Search > 035103245G - ECS Tuning Inc) DOESNT MENTION A4'S though ??
    06A 129 101 D = PRESSURE REGULATING VALVE (NO 20 ON DIAGRAM)
06A 103 247 = T SHAPED VALVE HOUSING (THEY SOMETIMES GET BRITTLE AND BREAK WHEN TRYING TO GET THE CRANKCASE BREATHER VALVE OUT, HAVE A FEEL AND SEE !! YOU MIGHT NOT NEED ONE)

All these errors are only really valid at idle, when you are driving with revs it shouldnt make a difference to the driving experience

There is also another way of proving its your crankcase breather valve, once you have located the T piece, with the engine on and your faults deleted on vagcom, the engine should be like ****, squeeze one of the T piece pipes that will simulate the valve being closed (not sure which pipe) the engine should respond immediately

Fitted! The old one had come apart internally and the spring/diafram bit was jammed open. Fitting the new one was pretty easy took only 10mins. On the quattro its pretty easy to access if you move the header tank out of the way.

Are you any good at dot to dot, follow the diagram up the post and ye shall find. To make it easier for people they make pipes that join together !!

If you cant find, try looking down the right side of the manifold and you should see a side on T piece, the is where the valve lives

Blackpool1974 - these crankcase valves are becoming a little too popular! You helped me on another forum (JIGGY C) which was greatly appreciated! I still can't believe that Audi have not twigged on and still go down the route of coil packs and mafs etc! Well, actually, I can!!

Can I ask - your smart roof - do you reccommed it?

Check under the inlet manifold PCV pipes, I had the same exactly the same fault codes, it was split hose.

Its all down to the price really, I got mine relatively cheap off a friend, the link below seems to be a good one for the money

    Reinhold Engineering

    2 unlocks for windows down
3 unlocks for roof down and windows down
4 unlocks for roof down and windows up

very easy to fit just take off the back drivers side cover and tap into the ground wire and join cables to the smarttop box. And of course you can open the roof at upto 30mph or so !!

If you do a search there is a company doing one for a very cheap price, not kufatec

Just to let you know have replaced crankcase breather valve on mine now and fault has gone, hopefully this has sorted this out for me. Again only 8 plus 12 for fitting to my mate (should buy a beer and burger!) this i s part number 6. Please not that i have also had part 20 replaced before so not sure if this was needed or not. Hope this helps.

Thank you once again Blackpool 1974.
