Question wheres the power going ?

My 2.5 TDI is having an small issue, from stand still if you floor it the power is just not there, she takes off at an ok speed, by the time the car has choked to the end of the gear it flys off in 2nd gear a lot better and the turbo kicks is, 3rd,4th, 5th and 6th are there ok,

I unplugged the EGR valve and wooosh off she goes like a bomb, but pipe that goes onto the EGR valve is not blocked so its classed as leaking? when i block the pipe with a bolt the car takes off ok but not as powerfull, The EGR valve is on 2 years old as iv changed it before, the pipe that connects to the EGR valve is sucking good,

Do you think it could be the actuator on the Turbo sticking ?

Mine had similar symptoms when it went. Give some thought to getting it tested with Vagcom and see's what it shows. Sticking vanes are also possible though so it's going to be a bit trial and error I imagine.

The variable vanes in the turbo, they can get clogged up with soot.

Yeah removal of turb needed for that mate, can be done yourself if you're technically minded/confident & dont bother with that turbo cleaner people mention, it hasnt been that successful & no doubt if its burnt on grime, it wont come of that easily & the cleaner weill only do surface grime not down to the bare metal IMHO thus will get clogged again fairly easily if it helps at all in the 1st palce that is, if you want a longer lasting turb then removal & clean properly would be best, only IMHO.

Wire brush to start with, obviously observing part strength etc, but you obviously have alot of cmmon sense so sure you'll be ok mate

Anything really that would brake down the grime of metal, have a looksy in halfords, they will have something, you could ask a few of the detailiers on here or detailing world what they know available locally today that breaks done grime on metal easily.

Im sure a bit of TFR or a oven de-greaser agent should do the trick, I may have to lay this job off till monday and take advantage of my workshops tools and really go to town cleaning out the double alloy air channels that feed the engines, the last time i changed the EGR valve i cleaned them out too then was fairly gunky too, 201k miles is gonna get a build up in places, I will get some photos and post them up, could be of some help to the others in the future,

its got 2 engines, i say two as its a V6, 2 engines collectively powering the same crank, i could be wrong with that statement but its kinda how is see it, 2 heads = 2 engines and 2 lots of bills and 2 times the chance fore a problem to cost you 2 lots of money,

umm, today did not go as planned, but i did get under the bonnet for a sniff about, the MAF is most certainly in the frame here, the car seems to run better with it un plugged!

Im now looking at the BMC pannel filter i put in about 2 months ago and i wondering if its got a part to play in all of this? Do the sports pannel filters let in to much crap as much as extra air? or was it just time at the bar folks for the MAF?

Sounds like the Maf then - what filter have you got? Some of the oiled filters can cause the Mafs to go haywire.

BMC pannel filter, I may put the standard one back in, well a new one, new MAF are only 89.50from GSF with a 89.50 Surcharge! (best take it out in there car park and slap it on the desk to save on the Surcharge!

Give audi a shout, they're not always more expensive, mine was like 70 with 20 surcharge.

Still think 200k on a derv would most certainly leave the turbo clogged to a degree & only doing yourself favours by cleaning it anyway.

The gloves came well off today, Gave all the bits a good clean up, EGR valve, crank case filter, injectors off, Turbo changed, air manifolds, everything got de-greased and de-gunked, After the turbo failing on me last year and all that oil being leaked into the air system it was a fairly poor site to see the damage it had done in there, even after a years worth of driving,
