HELP!! Heated rear window and wing mirror problem

I picked up my '51 A4 TDi 130 SE yesterday, and I'm less than please to find that the rear window demister and wing mirror heaters don't work. I know that they're operated from the same switch, so it's unlikely that the individual components have gone wrong. I thought about the fuse, which I checked, and it seemed fine, but I changed it anyway to make sure- to no avail. Any ideas? It's sod's law that the car went out of warranty only last week /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

it's a 2001 model- does it even have heated mirrors? How can I tell?

cheers for the reponses. What can be done about the switch? It lights up, then goes off after 10mins, but isn't defogging the rear screen.
