Hi, i have a 2002 S3 (my avatar) and am looking for something a bit better on fuel, newer etc for my daily driver. After having an S3 I dont want any old rubbish tho!

I saw tis on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330445728580&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

and it caught my eye, it seems to tick most of my boxes for what im looking for but i think it looks a bit steep at £12K! I know its a good spec and the cost of doing it was massive but not sure its worth that much considering milage and age? any advice from owners? cheers.

the cost is massive for the facelift mate but the 8p is a fantastic car in the 3 formats ive driven in and i love the look of the car, id say its worth a look

personally i'd go for the other one he's listed with the 2.0T. it's lower miles, a grand more and on a 2.0T which i think is a better engine. manual tho if that's an issue...

11-12k for for 87000 miles? Can't help but think there might be better deals out there for the TDI albeit not with a facelift but you clearly have some criterias that need to be fulfilled. Why not explain what there as are 'not any rubbish' is too ambiguous.

UPDATE: I realised I missed the lower half of your post lol.
After reading it again and the ad I think it's worth looking into if the facelift is important to you.

Keeythings I picked up on are that it has only had a single owner and the actualy parts used should cost a fair but as described in advert. If the facelift allows you to justify the cost then take a look at it. No harm doing that right?

Hopefully the TDI guys can advise on what things to look out for at that age/mileage in case there are some money traps waiting for you within the next 10-20k.

Look-a-like`s are completely naff IMO.
I certainly would pay a premium for one, regardles of what was spent on parts to get it like that.

Im sure there are lots of nice Tdis kicking about, what about a tidy S-Line with a wheel swap to personalise it?
Maybe a spring swap to tighten it up and improve the stance?

Good luck
Paul

Good detective work aythreee.. thinking outside the box!

Hi thanks for the replys guys!

I saw the feedback but i will be going in person and giving it a full once over and the feedback is mainly postage related, i will walk away if i smell a rat!

As for look alikes i think using full genuine parts is great. i have cant afford an 8P S3 and want a diesel for economy. i will take the S3 badge off as its clearly not an S3 but it just makes it a good looking A3 for me with all the bits i want.

What i need it is quite broad really its just finding what i WANT thats the problem, it doesnt need to be any bigger and still want a well built car. the S3 is my 17th car and the only reason im thinking of selling is i fancy a change and something more sensible should be on the cards really.

The 2.0T thats listed is nice but im not massive fan of the sportbacks (nothing against them but i dont need one so would prefer 3 door) also its more money for something only as fast as what i have and similar on fuel etc so not worth the money on top just for it newer really. i would want something different.

I think i will have to have a good look around at some others again to make my mind up. I will have to go for a look to set my mind to rest as he may take my S3 in px to save hastle! If the price gets closer to £10k or he does a good deal on mine then that will make or break it i think!

Thanks again!

I wonder how many stolen cars those are made up of.

Thats a rip off for a TDI with those miles, the S3 conversion is expensive but not worth a premium at the end of the day why pay more for a fake lookalike?
Some of those parts may well have been taken off a stolen car as well which is something to think about.

I paid 10k for my 2005 Audi A3 TDI sport with 46k 2 owners Full dealers service history and from a garage with a small warrenty etc, and i think i paid a little to much but i know the garage so got it from a trusted source. If i had that 2k spare you could spend it on converting to a facelift and fitting a set off coilovers and having a remap etc.

doubt you'll get a facelift for £2k. more like £4k-£5k.

I'd put money on that being a "non recorded" salvaged car. Plenty about. Not worth much repaired to OEM so pay a bit more to repair it with S3 bits and command a premium for it!!

................not that i'm cynical! but it does look very fresh and why go to all that expense and sell it?

I guess you guys missed this from the ebay adver

.It was professionally converted to look exactly like latest 2010 S3 spec using original Audi parts with receipts

If you want the economy and the looks I'd say its worth the premium.

The only question I would have in my mind if I went to look at something like this, is what was the motivation behind it. Was it a simple "must have" that someone did or was it banged up and needed new parts anyway so they bought the S3 bits to fix it up.

Paul without being funny fella, read between the lines mate, they bought that car for how much do you reckon based on age & even if it was smashed up a tad, then spend 7k on parts, then sell it for what 12k, do you think with 2 cars done up on ebay they would of used new parts on the car, its more than suspicious & where are all the S3's getting nicked these days.

It may be legit but the odds are very much stacked against it & I wouldnt be walking there with 12k cash thats for sure without an armed escort lmfao.
