Had a quick look through lots of old posts but couldnt find anything to answer my question....

Ive got a 1.6 fsi engine in my A3, I use Shell v-power (RON 98, German version of Optimax) in my car and it feels a bit sluggish in accelerating in the first few gears BUT as Ive only ever driven the 1.6 version Im unable to tell whether its the fuel or whether the 1.6 engine is a bit slow...

What fuel/ron do you guys use?

Thx for any info

Good Question Unkle... I'd like to ask the same for the 2.0 TDi... which company can give me the optimum diesel?

Filled up at Tesco's yesterday for the first time... cost me quite a bit, so it better not be cruddy! (It is City Diesel)

Anyone been really happy with the performance of their diesel though?

Unkle... apologies to have 'jumped on your bandwagon' /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue_out.gif

i try not to fill up at supermarket gas stops...

heard loads of nasty storys..

sorry..

i use esso, shell and bp... dont use total and all the other unknow west country random branding shops as they tend to be well over priced.

best fuel ive used it shell optimax..for the 3.2

Shell Optimax only and always in both cars...
Supermarket fuel has more impurities and less detergents (so I have heard)...

For an FSI engine, you really need Optimax or 98 ron superplus (if you can still find it!).
The 1.6 special editiion is really the only car designed around 95 ron premium unleaded.

Of course, you can use 95 ron with a loss of power and efficiency/mpg...

I nearly always use BP ordinary Diesel in my 2.0 TDI. If I cannot get BP the I use Shell. I remember reading an article some time ago where Audi had done some testing with many different types of petrol (I drove a 1.8T at the time) and they found both BP and Shell contained additives that gave better fuel consumtion and kept the engine cleaner.

Remember the fuel dispute last year or so?

Well, all those fuel tankers going out to the various petrol stations all filled up at the same depots. Not saying there isn't any specialist fuels out there, but people who were helping out there spotted it and when they asked, just got shrugs and smiles from the regular workers.

Supermarkets and regular filling stations alike...

Must be an insulated case, since every company uses their own additives. We don't have "supermarket" fuel points here in Finland, so I don't know who owns them and who fuels them. But one magazine has tested fuels in the past several times, and there is difference.

Anyway, to same 'depots', here Shell for example buys their petrol from Fortum (Neste), and then adds their own additives (but refinement is done by Fortum). Some smaller companies buy everything from Fortum. I think only Esso is bringing their own fuel, if even they are anymore.

So at least here the fuel is pretty much same quality everywhere, an exception being Neste, which has won those fuel tests every time, and is the only company atm who sells non-sulphur-gasoline & diesel at every station.

Anyway, I doubt the situation is that much different in UK, but I personally wouldn't buy some supermarket crap anyway, it could always from the lowest bidder.

Looking at the consensus here, guess I'll be filling up with the good stuff from now on /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/groovy.gif
