Hi Basically

I own the Audi and my cousin owns the golf. His golf is mapped from 150BHP two a rolling road 182, My audi is still standard and will be getting it mapped to a similar HP as his golf i was just wondering which would fair better in a race. I realise that my audi will probly be heavier but will have alot more torque! Which would be

better off the mark?
through the box?
top end?

Cheers

Take them to your local 1/4 mile and find out? Assuming your mate actually has the 140 BHP TDi mk5, they will be pretty much the same.

IIRC VW never made a Mk5 150. A 140 and a 170 in the mk5, or a 130 and 150 in a Mk4. Engines between same floorplan Golf and A3's should be the same, i.e. the 8L had the 130 TDi, and the 8P had the 140 and 170 engines, same as the mk5.

That's right. Mk4 was 130/150 PD and Mk5 was 140/170. I don't think they ever fitted the 150bhp PD to the 8L A3....

What makes you think your Audi would have a lot more torque when the engines are very very similar?

You will be heavier and therefore slower and unfortunately if you apply this theory you will both be beaten by a mapped Fabia VRS....oh the shame! lol

I have owned a 150 bhp mk4 golf and now own a 140 bhp A3 and as stock the golf felt condiderably quicker than the A3. I never remapped the golf but felt the A3 wanted more pull so I've had it remapped to 180bhp/320lb/ft. I also have owned a Fabia vrs remapped to 170 bhp 300lb/ft and that was far quicker that my A3 and the golf, I mean seriously faster. Must have far less weight. 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th gear acceleration was amazing 1st and second were difficult to put the power down but once you hit 3rd it would pull away from most cars easy.

I owned the mk4 golf GT TDI 130 before i bought the A3 TDI 140. the Golf was definitely faster and quicker accelerating than the A3. both are standard (no remaps)
If i am right the golf turbo kicks in alot quicker then the A3. i might get the A3 remapped but not too sure as it has fairly high mileage.

Mate of mine had a REVO|MK4 Golf Anni, fairly brisk and meant to be good for 190+bhp.

Would rather have the 8P A3 on the later later platform.
TBH Ive had a Mk4 Gti and its not brilliant, the CTR (and everything else) I owned afterwards made it feel 20yrs old and pretty agricultural, even in 18T 20V MTM ECU guise.

You have the better car IMO.
A few tenths means nowt. Go and get that remap.:icon_thumright:

cheers
