engine noise

just a quick question to others with a 2.0t is it normal for a whining noise from the engine it sounds like when my gearbox went on my old astra its quiet in all the gears apart from 3rd where it is loudish its done it since new its got 3k on it now and it was ran in proply so iv put it down to it supposed to do it, but i am a bit cautious of it?

from your sig am guessing it's a quattro?
if so it will be the haldex diff
mine makes the same noise fella only when i take my foot of the accelerator pedal at low revs between 2-3k cruising speeds

Yeah I get a "whining" noise on mine as well. But only when taking my foot off the gas and slowing down (low revs), as mentioned above.
I don't get the whining anywhere else.

Speaking of noise. Can you guys hear your engine ticking over from inside of the car when idling???
I used to have a non turbo FSI and I'm sure I couldn't hear a thing when idling. But in this TFSI I can.

yeah you can hear the engine, there not far off a diesel for the racket they make.lol
