Hi , i'm just wondering what you think of the autoglym lifeshine - what are your experiences ? I've just been offered it ( as usual ) on my new car order . Now , i know that they are saying that this usually costs between £400 and £500 which would probably make this a no no . They are however offering me a 'special offer' of £199 with £80 worth of autoglym products thrown in . Does this now make it worth going for or is it still a waste of money at this price ? Many thanks .

I got it free with my car, sure it looks nice, and loads of stuff in the bag, but for one Halfords sell all of their range now, and for two, do you actually wash your car yourself, for what you are paying that is a lot of car washes I certainly would not pay for it at all.

Had it on our car and didn't really rate it at all. Be better having a professional detail company do it.
Usually it's applied by garage chimps, so you don't get some specialist turn up from Auto Glym to do a bespoke job on your motor. All under licence and dealer applied.
Not saying it's worse than having nothing, but there are better out there for the money.

ive said it once and ill say it again, do it yourself you lazy ******** 
but failing that save your money and pay a professional detailer they will take much greater care of your car and not the wax on wax off attitude

The bag of goodies is not relevant its the paintwork treatment that is important. So bearing in mind that it also includes treatment of the seats and carpets I think it is well worth the money.

If you knew how much an Auto Glym Lifeshine pack cost to buy, you wouldnt be purchasing it from a dealer thats for sure. I know a mobile valet guy (not a detailer, just contracted to dealerships) and he tells me they are £12-15 to buy, he charges £60 to do it and the dealer coins £200+

If it was me I'd spend the money on my own Dual Action Polisher, a set of pads, some detailing clay and some decent Menzerna polishes and waxes for that hard Audi paintwork... you'd still have about £50 change too!!!

Thanks guy's ! Not many of you are actually rating this product - certainly not paying the £199 for it to be done . How difficult is it to apply these products yourself after spending around £15 off ebay to buy them ??? I like the idea of having a polisher but am a little wary of damaging the paint . Or maybe i'd be better investing in some decent cleaning products and wax etc . There are so many products out there that i really don't know which ones would be the best . The car which is on order will be Lava grey so do this have a baring on which products would be best , thanks .
Like you I was a bit wary of machine polishing for the first time however the polisher in my previous link is an orbital one (dual action) and unlike a rotary polisher the pad rotates similar to a figure of eight so it's impossible to cause damage to the paintwork by causing hot spots. I did some correction work on my A3 yesterday using some Menzerna polish and the results were fantastic. Like my previously owned BMW, the Audi paintwork is particularly hard and I found the members over at the Cleanyourcar forum have been really helpful in suggesting suitable products for all my paint correction and maintenance.

Prevention is also better than cure so get yourself into a good washing routine right from the start using a sheepskin mitt and the two bucket method. Here are a couple of links showing how to keep that brand new paintwork looking as good as possible:-

As for buying products I would say you're wasting your time spending your money on Autoglym or any other High Street prodcts. There's much better out there and a quick look through the web sites/forums will keep you on the right path.

3 years old and the car does not need waxing?really?
Unless your passat does not come out of the garage surely that can't be right, even on the cars I've had detailed by a professional where they have put on a highly durable last stage product the most I've seen is about 6 months effective protection but I suppose my car is in daily use and my washing techniques (allbeit decent) probably wear down the LSP quite quick.
If it was me I would personally not let the dealer touch my car for 2 main reasons...
1.You can do just as good a job if not better yourself(with a little time and care) using much better products than the dealer uses for cheaper.
2.A protection detail from a professional detailing company usually costs around £200 so I'd be inclined to say if you were going to spend the money, give the job to a professional and enjoy far superior results.
If you know or find out what swirl marks are (fine scratches on the clear coat) don't bother paying £300+ to have these corrected by a detailer because unless your car is going to be completely pampered and rarely be driven and you have all of the top end kit (££hundreds upon hundreds) AND you have a very safe and effective technique AND you enjoy spending countless hours on your car....the swirls will re-appear and you will wonder what its all worth especially when a good coat of wax will hide most of them and provide good protection.
A rambled on a bit here but I've basically came full circle from not knowing a lot about car care/detailing-----to knowing a bit more and buying some products------to becoming obsessed with detailing and spending more money-----to getting my cars detailed including correction and buying yet more products (were over a grand here)----to finally realising the results are only temporary if the car is a daily driver and you don't want to spend ages cleaning your car following certain processes and decided that a good polish and wax+once a week wash+once every couple of months re-wax and valet the car myself IS PLENTY!!!
I now await the detailers to come and absolutely roast everything i've just said...but bear in mind it was only my personal experience

waste of money at the dealers as they just have no idea about the proper prep work in sending out a ''new'' car, i do detailing and would charge alot less for a new car preparation detail which the dealers package cant compare 1 tiny bit.

If you think about it, although my car had a nice square AutoGlym sticker in the front windscreen (nice!), I could barely detect any other proof the car had been through a process. First signs that something wasn't right was the water didn't bead as you'd expect on the paintwork after a proper sealant / waxing.
Secondly unlike the sales pitch, I couldn't just wash the car with a hose and the dirt drop off. So that was boll0cks.
Finally, I bought some AutoGlym Hi Definition wax and tested that, and even their premium wax only seems to last about 4 months, so to think it lasts 3 years is a bold claim. Has anyone ever tried calling them back in for a 'free' top up that you are supposed to be entitled to?
