Cool Headlights seeing stonechip abuse, so gone for Lamin-X (Light smoke)

After the harsh winter, the knackered roads, and a bit of prospecting at ADI last October, I have decided to jump on the Lamin-X baand wago to keep the adaptive bi-xenons in good nick.

Kit arrived from the States yesterday, so as I was back home after a work gig and the weather was good I thought I's use the lunch break to get it on.

Pre cut kit make life easier:

    Whipped out all the trimmings:

Cleaned everything up using filtered water (supposed to be de-ionised, but I didn't have any to hand). Donned some gloved :

and started the arduous fitting (tools: water sprayer / de-ionized water / sharp craft knife, lint free cloth / hair dryer / bucket of clean water / small squeegee and some pliers - to get fog light grilles off)

    One done:

All done and put back together:

This is not an easy job. The hairdryer is essential as the headlights curve so much you really need to shape the Lamin-X. Ideally if you have space and good light, do it IN a garage, not outside like I did as you are fighting air born dust / **** in the wind.

Doesn't look great when first done as water behind the film makes it cloudy. As Lamin-X is porous it will sweat this out and settle (so it says??!). Very thick as films go, so make sure you use a new blade if you can to trim off the lugs and excess.

If in doubt, get a professional to fit it as it's 35% inc. 10% off code, and whilst not hugely expensive it would be if you got it wrong once or twice. If your used to doing a day job using your hands (not an office based seal like myself), you'll walk it.

Feel it makes the front end look more aggressive which can only be a good thing. And saves the lights too. Get in!

    thanks!

that is light smoke (the lightest tint shade) - below that is clear, or above is dark smoke (a bit too limo tint for me). Looks darker as its head on, from angles looks less so.

Liking that, good shade to choose. Does it effect the light output from the headlamps??

Car looks good, love the colour!

Cheers! Not too sure on light levels, need to go out and try it at night.

Get quite a few people flashing me at night (not the right kind unfortunately) thinking I have my full beam on (when I don't), so hope this will resolve this. I wont get the chance to drive it at night until Saturday as I'm on the train to London tomorrow

Warren nice job mate, but did you order the UV bottle & if so what size, just curious as thought about this recently, also yours is the "Tint" version as cant see any reference to Light Smoke below Tint as such.

If your have xenon's there is no change when using 'tint'.
Gunsmoke (the darkest type you get i think), will affect the output of xenons.

Normal lights, im not sure :S

    Here you go: http://www.lamin-x.com/Audi-A3-2006-on-s/137.htm

There was a discount code of 10off before, try that out when you order.

Lamin-X looks great on an Ibis S3 BTW:

It looks better in the flesh than in the photos, with the colours on offer it was always going to be a tough call.

My lights have taken a caning recently with bad roads, and as the grey cars on 8p2 fronts tend to look a bit soft against the black and white cars it just sharpens it slightly. These photos were taken when the film was still very cloudy.

Always appreciate a balanced opinion though,so fair call.
