im not going to be covered with warranty as looking at a 55plateA3 1.9/2.0 sportback.i am aware that anyone who has had problems with there car is mor likely to go on forums to air there grieviences?.i expect some things to need maintance, but not blood!.pls understand im coming from a vauxhall astra that has never failed or broke down in 4years,surely im not out of order to expect trouble free driving after all vorse'sprung tecnik pls excuse spelling!!!

hi
audis diesel models can normally cope with a few miles provided there serviced well. but unfortunately, there is good and bad in any car

All cars have grumbles, and you will see them all on the forums! IMO - Audi engines are pretty rock solid given an excellent service history, right down to regular oil changes every 10k etc. My mates 1.9tdi has covered 160k and is going strong, my petrol 1.8t has 149k on it and hasn't missed a beat. Can't comment on the 2.0tdi but I will be making the switch to one in under a month. Good luck with the new motor, just ensure it has a crystal clear service history, ex fleeters usually do, you can call the lease company for a printout of it's history for a tiny bit of money. Well worth it as it verifies the history and details most of the work it's had. Btw, at 80k you'll need to make sure it's had a full cambelt service.

thanks for replying' tho not won over by yr confidence, mayb they just good while on warrenty, after that hit&miss..
cheers..

I currently have a 1.9 TDI Quattro and has 176k miles on the clock, Full Dealer History and has been great. Recently had a prop shaft problem but with that kind of mileage I can live with it. Other than that it has been fantastic, never broken down.

But as people have said, there is always bad in every car, just make sure its service history is good.

If you call the dealer direct it would be a fortune, but if you quote the internet price, I think that to replace the cambelt its around £300, bargain.

I've got an 07 2.0TDi that just went through 70k last night. Apart from regular service items all it's ever needed has been tyres and an oil top up every now and then as well as the clutch/flywheel issue which was sorted under warranty. I'd say that at this sort of mileage, if the car has been properly maintained and cared for it should be very solid.

Can you breifly explain what the "clutch flywheel issue" is please?

With most of them covering motorway miles its not usually a big problem as long as it has DFSH (fleet cars usually do anyway)

Mine is on a 55 plate at 95k with no problems at all.

I don't understand what causes it, but the car develops a vibration on idle. When coming to rest, e.g. traffic lights, my car would shudder quite violently as if it was about to stall and the revs would bounce up and down but dipping the clutch would stop it. Shortly after it also developed clutch slip.

My dealer said they couldn't pick up what I was telling them on a test drive but because it was a known fault swapped them anyway. That was at 48K and it's been fine since.

My 2.0 tdi is approaching 86k now. I brought it back in October last year on 72k so have covered a fair few miles in it and got to know the car.

I had the cambelt and waterpump changed on around 75k at a cost of £300 and had an oil change bringing the total to around £380 from an independent specialist. Other than that all I have needed to do is another service and 2 tyres.

Over the next week or two I need to replace the disks and pads all round as the light has come on, need another 2 tyres and another service, but only the disks and pads are due to mileage really (servicing is normal).

Overall I would really rate this car. I just wish I had the money to get one with the newer shape front end, but being 19 and wanting to move out I thought an older one to be more sensible :)

As said above, just check the service history before buying. I would also really recommend an HPI check just for peace of mind!

pretty sure audi have £329 on their website for cambelt over three years old and up to 2.0 engine.
remember and get the water pump done thimk i remember reading it was around £60 from independant. i know it dosent help for an audi price for pump but all i gots.
