I agree there are some very good tech's out there but they are hard to come by, plus you have to get a decent service adviser in the first place to relay your faults accurately, I am lucky in that I have a very good relationship with the service dept at my preferred dealers but I would still speak to my specialist first if I encountered a problem, get him to log the faults or what he thinks the issue is so I can go 'armed' with all the correct info to get the issue rectified under warranty at my dealers, my specialist would possibly charge me a small fee to investigate and his hourly rate is obviously far lower than a main dealership due to overheads.

I think the biggest issue stems from the main dealer being part of Audi so its more difficult to remain impartial.

IMO there is a place for both specialist and main dealers with both deserving different types of business largely dependant on wether your own car has been modified or not.

I couldn't agree with you more. This is an area our manager is trying to improve. Many peoples problem isn't what gets done but how they are treated and 'delt' with and i think the lack of friendlyness is where dealers stumble.

I spent my first 5 years as a tech including my apprenticeship at a good independant so i can appreciate the pro and cons from both sides.

Sarah, when they asked for more diag time, didn't they say where they suspected the fault lay?
