Inner City DPF Problems - HELP!!!

    Hi everyone,

Firstly I want to say that this is an excellent forum and I love the feedback and pictures that everyone who is proud of their Audi (PrAudi's - lol) put up here.

I have a 56 plate 8P 2.0 TDI 170 Red S-line, which I adore and I do that look back and check out everytime I park it!

    HOWEVER...........

I am getting to the stage now that I fear I may have to get rid of it!!!!!!!! My problem is this. The particle filter keeps on blocking up as I do regular 20-30 min drives to work mostly through sh#~ty traffic. Over the last few months I have had the particle filter light come on about 4 times and this is the 2nd time now that I have to give it to the garage to regenerate as it is in limp home mode due to coil and ecu probs. I know of the 'eco friendly' fix that involves raking the balls off it up and down the motorway for about half an hour but is employing this method on a fairly regular basis the only way I can keep it?

I would be really grateful for any help or advice as I cant afford a Ł150.00 date with the garage every 2 months!

Cheers and keep up the good work!

worst thing about these engines, they also dont seem to mention it to people when they sell them. i had a 1.9tdi courtesy car and had the same thing happen to me.. i got to stage 2 where the coilpack light comes on.. called audi and got told either give it a thrape or it will cost you!!?? so when i gave the car back i complained that they didnt mention this to me and the fact it could have cost me.. (and that i think they are stupid designs) the guy basically laughed and said at least you didnt but a fully loaded a4 convert and give it back after a week losing 4k like one of his customers.. they failed to mention it to him!! (he lived in central london and used it for a short traffic journey..

it seems you either have to live with it or get rid!! i didnt think the 2.otdi had them tbh!?

Get it remapped so as to be able to remove the DPF. Power will rise to 220-230 bhp and no horrible DPF anymore.
    06 Audi 2.0 PD140 Sport TDI Quattro S-LINE.
Old engine 330 bhp @ flywheel 263 bhp @ wheel 490 lb torque. Audidriver write up HERE
Now stripped and playing with an uprated Cryo treated engine fitted with bigger turbo,water/methanol,uprated injectors etc etc.Wanting 400 bhp and 500 lb torque.

Other car 500+ bhp MK4 Golf R32 turbo.

really? Im looking at 170 passats at the moment. Is it easy to remove the DPF? How does a 170 handle being mapped to 220bhp? Any other upgrades essential?

If your looking at the diesel 170 that has a DPF as well mate. All VAG diesel cars from the PD170 56 plate and newer have DPF`s because of the new EEC emmission laws. I hate to swear but JBS/Custom code can do this as well as P-Torque and several other companies. You might want to find out how it effects the car at MOT time as to weather you need to refit the DPF and flash the ECU back to stock to pass as the DPF is wired to the ECU unlike a CAT which can be removed from a diesel car with no MOT issues. The PD 170 engine can handle the power no problems but a free flow backbox would be helpful if you want to get the most power out of the system and unless the torque is kept below 300 lb a new uprated clutch might be need down the line at some stage but to me personally it would be worth it for the grin factor.

I have never taken any of my cars there and never intend to. Kev is a very good mechanic but i have read and heard far to many times about people that have had bad exsperiances with that company plus i don`t agree with how the company is run. Go on Briskoda ( where JBS/Custom code are banned ) and ask people on that forum what they think of JBS.

Thanks for the info, will be sure to look further into this but replacing DPF for MOT testing sounds like a real head ache.

My Brother in Law works for Audi as a Mech and he said that when they have a car come in with the light on they just take it for a good run down the motorway. Light goes off, customers wallet left slightly lighter then before. So i would guess that you are going to be best to try and head for a motorway every once in a while. No point in paying Audi to do it for you!

I know but the problem comes when the ECU flashes and it needs a VAGCOM reset. Is there any way to do this yourself with a 'homebrew' kit VAGCOM?
