Unhappy If Carlsberg made cars, they wouldn't be Audis.

Before I torch my car I need a little help. Ever since having the gearbox changed in my 2005 2.0TDI Sportback at 67K and paying in excess of Ł2000 for the privilege, a reoccurring noise keeps happening which, if you are Lost viewers, sounds like the smoke monster. The noise happens when the engines is up to temperature. The car has been back to Audi 4 times for this to be put right but it keeps happening.

The first time was put down to a warped heat sheild between the gearbox and clutch etc. The centre did not change this when changing the gearbox.

It was replaced after a number of failed attempts to fold it back through the inspection cover.

More recently the noise has started again, after less then 9000 miles.

On inspection by Audi the noise has progressed to another plate that is above the inspection cover for the fly wheel. This heat sheild is meant to have another cover on top of it, as with current models, but this one is listed by the manufacturer as not having one. So Audi have put on on at my expense.

I was reassured, though not completely, that it was now okay and if it happened again Audi would replace both under warranty.....No why would someone say that? Because the very next day the noise is occurring AGAIN!

Ever since the gearbox was changed the car has been a freaking nightmare! Coolant warnings, parking sensors faulting, brake lights keep blowing, rear washer stopped working, alternator broken and windows don't operate properly all the time. The car still looks great though.

I would love to know if anyone else has had any of these issues so I can put a stop to it as my wife will have me driving a Nissan, or worse, a Honda by the end of the year!

    Thanks in advance.
Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene".

First for me i doubt very much the heat shield was at fault from your post, also i think you have just a had a bad dealer look at the car.
Audi are very much made by Carlsberg pal and are the leading manufacture'r in today's automotive industry.

those white limited edition NSX Type R are lovely!

to the OP, i'd go back to Audi, it sounds like they need some "gentle" persuasion to make the effort and fix it, or if you have a decent independent specialist round your way, go and see if they can diagnose the problem for you then go back to Audi and tell them what needs fixing.

Leading on interior quality yes, big power saloons and estates, probably!

Customer service, pricing, dealer knowledge, general reliabilty on a downer.......I think the Japs would laugh at your statement! Sounds like you have been falling for the hype in the company car park!

Forgot to add. The turbo is leaking, needs further 'research', the gearbox mounts need changing (Were not changed when the gearbox was replaced) and the front bushes need replacing.

I owned an Almera (T registered), it doesn't have a 1/3 as many stripes as the car pictures above, the most work it has required are the brake lines needed replacing.

This Audi for me has failed, by a long way, to live up to its heritage. I appreciate that other owners have, hopefully, had better experiences.

I will be pushing it with Audi tomorrow. There are worse things in the world than driving around in a brand new motor while they have mine.

    I prefer the GTR.

It can be down to having a bad egg of a car sometimes, I had a Nissan 200 from new and had all manner of problems with it, dealers were ok but needed some hand holding to get the problems solved, after they did it was a pretty good car for whole lot of miles after, but for the first 6 months it was a dreadful ownership experience.

For what it's worth Mazda have been the best experience in car ownership i've ever had actually, faultless dealer and servicing experience and great cars for the money.

Strangely the best car i had from a reliability angle was a Vx cavalier 2.0 GL ..I did just under 200k miles in that thing and no problems, mind you it was totally shot when it went back...
As i have said before, its not that audis are any worse than any other car ..its just that costs are so sky high that a simple problem like mine might cost thousands just to identify. Once it comes down to investigation at nearly Ł3 a minute the bill can run wild with no guarantee they will find the problem....It can cost you Ł20 if the guy just stops for a coffee of goes to the Loo.
