    Tyre problem

Just found a big screw in one of my front tyres. Looking at it it might just be on the edge of the repairable section. If it can't be repaired can i get away with only changing the 2 fronts or do i have to change all 4. Tread on all 4 is down to 3.5mm. Also if i use the space saver is it better to put it on the rear axle? Car is an S3.

Space saver should always go on the rear axle

I believe that a car will pass an MOT as long as the axle has the same tyres, so you can have different ones on the front compared to the back

But i'd get all 4 done for peace of mind an continuity

Would you believe it, i've carried a can of puncture repair foam for the last 5 years, thought i'll use it on this puncture as i've got 200 miles to drive early AM and didn't fancy it on a space saver, blooming thing didn't work. Grrrrr. Thanks for the replies, i've fitted it on the rear. 4 Michelin pilot exalto's =Ł660= Gulp. Good job i got 3 new ones off Ebay for Ł90 each in December.

You could get away with changing only the front tyres if you want. The rears still have nearly 2mm of tread left before they are illegal although most tyre manufacturers recommend changing tyres at 3m due to the massive tail off in performance below that level.

The space saver can be used on any corner of the car but you need to be aware of the speed limits imposed when its fitted.
