They could paint silver, but the brushed alu finish is special paint, not something they can do without special kit.
 
wheres the best place to get the brushed ones from then? and are the sportback ones different to the hatch?

I've got a set on mine that I might sell soon. I've (apparently) got some new mirrors waiting to go on, but it's anybody's guess when they'll turn up!
 
No they are all the same.

Probably the bay is you best bet.

However, try not and buy any that have had their wires accidently cut. You will burn your hands :)

I'll probably drop hints on here that I'm looking to sell, then get the thread locked, but hopefully in that time I'll have generated enough interest, and will sell via PM.

deffo get brushed and from experiance get oem ones, i had a copy set and they bubbled up in a few months, not worth it, cost you more in the long run, stick out for genuines, plenty pop up on ebay

They used to be solid cast metal. I had these on my S4. It was great, I hit a cyclist once with my mirror and broke his arm. You wouldn't get that with these new crappy plastic ones.
 
USED to be indeed... not on the newer models anymore..

They rule BTW
