any ideas as its doing my head in!!!! any body got the same problem ?it goes away at 2 and a half but you spend most of you time at these revs , would main dealer be to exspensive to find out

You dont say if you're petrol or diesel. If petrol the first things I would do is check or replace the plugs and check all the HT leads.
An engine vibration, like you have described, usually indicates a misfire in at least one cylinder.
If its diesel then thats another problem - a faulty injector perhaps....

its a diesel mate didn't think that would course it to vibrate though

I've got the same issue mate, getting done under warranty by main dealer, they say its the propshaft

Had same issue on mk5 tdi 4 motion (same car underneath) prop shaft out of balance.

Hope this helps

fizz could you ask how much it it is to do it please

did it do it mostly in 5th and 6 th and go away after 2and a half thousand revs

At last someone with the same problem! Got my 2006 2.0 tdi quattro 140 a couple of months back and it's doin my head in too. Think it's drivetrain related because it's only there when you put power on an goes away when you back off.
Got it booked in at audi for a drive with the master tech on the 12th.
Will let you know how that goes.
It's really annoying. Hope it can be cured.
An yea it's mostly 5th an 6th gear right about 70 mph so very annoying.
And away over 2.5k revs

Yup mine is just like that. Its not going in till the 22nd, will let you know what they charge (covered under warranty though).

were are you both from ? as it would be worth having a listening to one of you cars to see if its the same

I'm from Glasgow area. So probs not close. Its like extra loud diesel engine noise and vibrations through the car.

hi guys got a 2005 tdi quattro with the same problem and its really annoying, would be good if someone finds a cure.

anyone else have this issue?
is it a common problem?

I dunno. It's just really noisy and vibrating. My mate says he can feel it right up through the passenger seat when I'm drivin.
It's annoying because it's right on the torque bar so takes away fun of driving a diesel.

i have the exact same problem. bougt a 55 plate tdi quattro yesterday and it started doing it on the way home(obviously didnt accelerate hard enough during test drive)
hopefully wont need a new prop shaft :(

its a shame mate did you tell the person you brought it off ?

think you'll find its the dreded 'flywheel'

the 'flywheel' sureley you know what a flywheel is.

it would be the flywheel if you can here a rattle in first gear i think i got told , mine is going in next sat so i will let you know what my problem is fingers crossed

Take it to your dealers, there is a known issue with vibration on DMFWs many have had new clutches and flywheels under warrenty

Flywheel would be my bet for loud vibration

If you are having problems with your load vibrating in the back, i would think you coul dhave dodgy shocks

but mine is a 55 and is out now, ive rang derby and they say there is no problem with them guess they would say that

I also have same problem car is tdi 4motion golf
This is what vw manual says about refitting prop shaft

If droning noises occur during travel, note the following:
N34-1826.png
t Remove balancing nut and balancing washer -arrows-.t Then, if necessary, unbolt propshaft with flexible coupling from propshaft flange of rear final drive and offset it by one hole.t If droning noises are still audible, front propshaft must be rotated one more hole.

Im thinking about changing intermediate bearing and getting shaft balanced while off
So will be good to see what audi say to you when you take it.

Yes propshafts can be re balanced (check to see if the balance weight have fell off usually two metal plates welded at the rear end) there are a few places that do this also they can be stripped cv joint serviced centre bearing replaced.

here is one that i found http://www.propshaft.co.uk/

Found this http://www.driveshaft.ie/faq/#2
Good bit of info read number 2 (2. The driveline vibrates at a certain speed) this is our problem i think

If anyone is going to remove propshaft both ends need to be marked for position on the flanges so it goes back in the same position ie the propshaft holes and the flage holes go back in same place damper must not be removed from prop and new bolts used info take from vw repair manual

I will be looking at my propshaft at weekend to see if i can see any wear if not im gonna unbolt the centre bearing and try move it either way to see if its alignment issue.
Also waiting to see what dealer says to fizz and latta 1989
But guessing that there under warranty dealer will just change the whole propshaft for ease i bet the cost is about £1500-2000 from dealers

the price from audi just for the prop was just over a grand

plus vat and fitting would be expensive thats why i thought about ordering centre bearing (£100 a guess) taking prop off, and taking prop and bearing to propshaft place getting them to change the bearing and service cv joint plus rebalance (£200 a guess) should be as good as new.

could change bearing and service cv myself, but think while its off worth getting balanced and letting them change bearing as they are the specialists only thing they do so for (£200 guess) i think could be a better option.

would be good to see what audi say to the others first. i have checked your audis and my golf same part number for prop and haldex

The haldex oil and filter should be changed every 40000 mile (worth checking your history) i also changed my rear dif fluid when i done mine (was a little low)

I must add that it seems that the Haldex oil should be replaced every 20,000 miles and oil and filter changed every 40,000 miles.
I don't know whether this is the norm but my Audi Service Schedule book covers many models in the 'A' series and it's clarity leaves a lot to be desired.
I think each model should be supplied with a dedicated service schedule. It's not too much to ask for a car of this quality and price.

latta 1989 how did the drive with the master tech go

im going today so will post later , im also waiting for blatta 1989 come on man lol

well its not the duel mass flywheel its coming from the back told to get my prop reckoned it could be costly though if its not that trying things so ringing round for prices

i think it is the prop i work for a diesel engine company i work in product devolpment we have 30 or so engineers i have spoke to them about this

as i said in earlier post there are not many parts that make up the prop (two halfs connected by a cv joint a center bearing that holds it to car and a damper)

I am gonna buy the bearing take it to prop recon place get them to chage this they need to split the two half so there two jobs done (cv join plus bearing) then balance.

I think that balancing alone is silly for tthe price of bearing and extra work later

If you want info for removing prop i can email you VW plus Audi work shop instruction (ELSA)

Could buy a secondhand prop but who to say it hasnt been removed for same issue, as with a new prop still could be slightly out of tolerance i guess

did you go mate

Sorry not been on recently. Loads of Uni work.
The guy seemed like he knew what it was straight away.
He thought it could be the propshaft bearing??
Says that they have changed the design of them since. I reckon why this problem only seems to be on 55 an 06 cars so far.
Going in on 26th I think fo repair so will let you know if this solves problem.

Ok thanks Latta1989 will be good to see if its a fix

how many mile your car done
