can anyone recommend a set of wheels for an A3 sportback. Its a company car with the standard wheels on, so Im only after something cheap and cheerful for a couple of years that dont look as bad as the standard issue ones;

Ye the replicas have me abit weary too, you just dont know how good a quality they are till its too late!

Red D, is that your car in the pic? If so, consider going down the route of 17" alloys, if you go for 18's your car will be sky high....

If you're worried about the Reps try looking for some OEM used wheels on good old ebay there should be plenty around, some simple 5 spokes from A3 or A4 will look good enough in 17 inch form on SE suspension, if you go for some A4 wheels though bear in mind you'll need new tyres as the profile will be wrong and make it look a bit silly too.

Good luck!

Wouldn't you want to spend a little bit more and get some nice looking decent rims? I know you will be giving car back after 3 years or whatever but you would at least be able to recoup some of that money with some decent rims rather then some cheapish ones! There will be a VMR group buy in about 4 weeks time so look out for that one and hop in if you like the look of them!.

Oh and I mean recoup by selling them on.

well its not my actual car, but the same bog standard model. I think they are 17" x 7.5j. That wont be SE suspension though will it (its a standard sportback 2.0 tdi)

I'll have to keep the same tyres that are on it at the moment with it being a company car. Will have another gander on ebay

cheers

Yeah if money wasnt a bit tight at the moment I probably would :sorry:

you could think out side the box and look at other manufactures like Porsche, BMW or Mercedes. I picked up a set of 18" E Class rims for £200

B19CTR, that looks surprisingly well on the Merc wheels! Was the offset not an issue?

Nice

The wheels are 18"x8.5 fronts and 18"x9" rears ET38 all round I've had no issues with rub or anything the only thing i did have to do is stretch the tryes to get the tread under the arches but it's not mad stretch :)

There are a lot of nice rims out there I managed to pick up these Carlsson rims which i've let my mate have for his Passat

The Passat looks amazing! Must be on Air ride, surely. I miss my Passat a lot, here's mine on Merc fitment wheels with 255's. Even if it is off subject. (still, just goes to show they don't have to be VAG wheels) :

yeah its on air ride was a close call with those wheels we had to put a magazine over the wheel to see how much gap we had as we lowered it down but the camber pulled the rim in as it went down :)

Ha, that would be a real worry. Nice looking estate that. Look forward to your A3 170 arriving and seeing what you get up to with it. Catch you later.

not mad on the estate alloys to be honest. a bit shiny for my liking

Like the merc ones on the Golf. Can the merc caps not be swapped out?

im sure you could get Audi replacements there 70mm from memory if its still light when i get home i'll try an audi one ive got on my A6 splits ive got waiting for the A3 :)

Chris

this is the car in question. Thinking about getting a rear roof spoiler too. Any other suggestions?

cheers

The whole point of the OEM+ scene is keeping bits like the original cntres.

Just looked at one of your posts, I think the suspension on a standard will be the same as SE and if it comes with 17's which I think they do now you might think it looks ok ya know.

Take a look at these, they always look really well when fitted and if your car comes with 17's then these would work well with the tyre swap!

I had these on my A6 and they looked ace!

But the RS6's are nice on the A3. Good reps are cheap on Ebay and are always wanted. Genuine RS6's arn't too dear with descent tyres and will always sell on to get back most of your money when you want them gone. I've bought a few sets of originals now for around £400-£500 and never lost on them.

Good call on the A6 wheels same as I had on the Passat as earlier in thread.

Agreement with people always out there to buy RS6 reps too.

I'm considering buying a set of 18" RS4 replicas off eBay. 235/40/18 tyres would give me a diameter 9mm larger than my current tyres (225/45/17), which I think I can cope with. I haven't bought any wheels since fitting 15" Escort GTI alloys to my 1993 Fiesta track car, so am not too "up" on any offset issues I may have etc.

Would the RS4 alloys bolt straight on without the 235/40/18s rubbing? If so, I'll order a set tomorrow, £450 inc next day postage!

In theory that sounds ok. Can you get the offset or ET off the seller to be sure they won't stick out too far. Needs to be around 50 to 42 really.
