    Angry MOT

Took my A3 for a "free" mot today. Waited for it for 2 hours.
I was told it failed on front brake pads being less 1.6mm.
I said they are not, I checked them on the weeked.
I asked to see the MOT tester and I did, He agreed the outside pad had 4mm on it but he couldnt see the inside pad clearly so he failed it.
I know it was fine because i took them out saturday to check, only a ten min job.

So I proceded to jack the car up in the car park and take the pads out and took them in to the service manager. He took them away to the MOT tester and came back 10 min later and said he still wont pass it!
I ask for the apeal forms and left.

Took it for another mot this pm and passed no problem! He said theres loads of pad left.

Im going to be kicking off bit time with audi tomorrow!

Tut tut. I assume you havent paid Audi for anything?

VOSA says that you give the benefit to the customer ie, pass & advise to show that you have at least seen it & not missed it. If you cant see something with need tools to strip you should also pass as we are not allowed to remove anything that requires tools.

Looks like they were caught out, expecting you to accept it. Its up to you if you want to appeal, tricky thing is you have been at the pads so Audi could claim its not the same pads. If appealling its best not to touch anything, VOSA will come and conduct a full MOT on the car and compare their findings, not just the pad issue.

I would say this guy is non qualified to MOT a vehicle!!! If he couldn't see the inside pad what else couldn't he see that would prevent a vehicle from being road legal. Definatly a case for the Trading Standards

my S3 had a free MOT yesterday and failed on a weeping rear shock that passed an MOT at another station last year in the same condition. I was quoted 134 for one shock and was advised to change both due to the high milage of my car. I took my keys and told them i'll be back before 10 days for my free re-test. Bought a full set of S3 suspension for 50 and fitting the rear shock this sunday.

They also gave me an advisory on one of my front tyres saying it was close to the limit. both my fronts are 4 months old and only covered 3000 miles! They do try it!!!

I took my car in today also for a free MOT - Passed no problems!
I even treated the car to some new wipers....

I've always had great service from them - 5 Oaks Audi (Harwoods Group) though in London i had nothing but trouble with dealers, guess i just depends on who you get...

I bought an A2 from a dealer near Stanstead Airport... (Naming no names!) and had to fight tooth and nail to get my money back; i drove out of the dealers, got on the motorway and the oil light came on, bone dry! Then one of the lights didn't work - They fitted a new bulb and broke the seal - Meaning a whole new light. They said theyd completed all these checks yeah ok... Just shows some dealers don't care what you think - They just want you 's
I only got my money back after i told them i'd come and collect it from them in person! The guy didn't even have the balls to give me the cheque himself, had his PA do it for him! Ah bless....

I always under the impression the car had to pass a brake test on the rollers and a visual pad inspection was not part of the test ???????
I had a free MOT about 2 weeks ago, luckily without any problems.

you need to do visual test of braking system before using the rolling brake tester in case something isn't right or safe like burst pipe/flexi hose etc. You are also required to examine the discs & pads as much as you can see and if less than 1.6mm or the discs are excessively worn etc then they fail. The MOT is a minimum standard where as in servicing you replace anything that is worn.

The missus took our a3 tdi sport into doncaster audi last week and whilst optimistic about it passing , the thought was in the back of ur minds what they would "uncover" .
After a while out came the service girl , FAILED , number plates gap slightly too small 5mm too close between letters and numbers , yes my fault get told every year but manage to scrape it thru , and wait for it , obstruction to the rear view mirror, the magic tree airfreshner hung on the rear view mirror , advisory no fail yes , after she had read it out and utterly embarressed she went off and got us a price for the plates 30 +vat fittede , cracked on and passed within 30 mins so alls well , even after a scare

things like this should always be an advisory as its not a car malfunction, you can not be failed for things like that, like dice, the tester should just take it down and inform you!

vosa do random check on garages now n again, my missus had vosa at their garage for the whole day because another garage was failing cars and vosa were getting complaints so all the cars came to the garage my missus works at to get rechecked and near enough, all passed easily. the other garage, (i think) was shut down.

i think audi do these free MOT's only to make something up about why it failed so the customer has to pay money!

unless its failed & marked as dangerous, its then illegal to drive the car on the road - even home from the test so technically it cant leave the dealer till repaired :-O

Hello, newbie here as a poster but a regular reader. Purchased a 2006 Audi A3 2.0 TDI S-Line last July, just taken advantage of Audi's free MOT and as it was due a service in 500 miles thought I might as well get it done at the same time. It has passed its MOT but the "Visual Health Check" has reported the following

x2 Number Plates - water ingress (look fine to me) 49.70
rr Washer Jet partial blocked 21.77
Air Con Servicing Due - 2 years 51.85
    Brake Fluid Replacement time/mileage 56.39
ft pads n discs corroded 279.51
rr pads n discs corroded n binding 225.84
x2 intercooler seals oil leak 71.86

Making a grand total of 756.92.

Are these prices reasonable? I did not get the work done. The car was bought from the dealer last July and has done approximately 9k since then and has 25k on clock.

Also the service indicator on the DIS does no longer states when the next service is due, will this correct itself after a day or so/miles driven?

    Any info appreciated!

Had a reply from Audi today.

I think theve missed the point!

    Here it is.....

Thank you for your email of 2 February regarding the MOT for your Audi A3 undertaken by Cardiff Audi. Please accept my apologies
    for the delay in responding.

I was naturally concerned to learn that the level of service you received at Cardiff Audi failed to meet your expectations.
Whilst all of our Centres are both independent and autonomous, I would expect them to offer the same high standards of service
that we strive to exceed. All customers should be treated in a professional and courteous manner and I would like to apologise
sincerely that this was not your experience.

I have spoken with John *****, Head of Business at the Centre, who explained that his Service Manager, Nick #######, met with
you on the day of your MOT test. Mr **** informed me that it was the opinion of the MOT tester that on visual inspection the
brake pads were less than the limit and this is the reason your vehicle failed the MOT. Once this has been submitted there is an
appeals process which must be followed if there is a dispute regarding the results.

Mr ****** advised me that they were willing to retest the vehicle free of charge once the pads had been replaced to try and
    resolve any remaining concerns.

Feedback of this nature is vital to ensure that we continue to monitor and improve the service that is provided by the Audi
Centre Network. The time you have taken to contact Audi UK is greatly appreciated.

Eh???? I think your right. Besides that, do they mean replaced as in put back on the car or replaced as fitted with new ones (more of a failure of the English language here complicating matters!)

They havent missed the point at all its just standard corporate bull. Reply within a certain time but never admit liability. Customer service in this country has primarily become an arse covering exercise. Its sites like this that allow us to fight back. Whenever i have a problem i'll always let it be known i'd publish the information online as the threat of bad publicity is one of the best tool we have!!

I love the "failed to meet your expectations".... Obviously you are a fussy ******* and people like you have unreasonable expectations!!!!

"The time you have taken to contact Audi is greatly appreciated".... Please feel free never to contact us again.

    Give em hell mate!!!

We have our MoT on Tuesday, and I'm waiting to se if they fail us on rear brake pads.

I pushed for them to replace them 2 weeks ago when they replaced the fronts, but they said that the rears were well above the point of needing replacement! When I had the car checked at an independent recently (exhaust fitting), they said the rear pads were close to the acceptable level to be changed. Fortunately I have a week before our fixed price maintenance ends (if they do say they are outside legal parameter), AND I have a multi-point check document from 2 weeks ago giving the car a complete clean bill of health.

Yet again I'm found shaking my head, and finding that these supposed 'premium brands' are anything but when it comes to service. They're still conmen with a slightly better cut of suit.

When i part x ed my old car in at Audi they knocked 300 off the value because the tires were worn and another 300 to refurb the wheels.......I took the guy outside and got him to check the tires again and they had 6mm across the width..OH he says... i just looked, didnt measure them...Not a good start when buying a new car from Audi expecially as the new car failed the MOT 4 moths later......on the worn tires they had sold me on it....

And people wonder why i get pissed off with Audi's...

Fact is they are there to make money out of you any way they can.
