    Unclear about noises

I have an A3 2.0 TDI who has developed strange noises over a period of 4 months. The noises are getting louder. At the beginning I thought it came from a rear suspension as it is produced when I turn right.

I have read all there is to read about CV joints, boots and driveshaft and I am still not convinced. The noise seems to come from the front every time I turn right and accelerate. If I turn right and do not accelerate, then , nothing. Occasionally If I turn left I can hear a noise. The sound is quite bassy, more a clonk than a click if you see what i mean.

I have taken both front wheels and looked at the CV boots, no leaks apparent.
My car has only 42000 miles on the clock which is mainly city.

I phoned the Audi dealer who wants Ł99 + VAT just to do a diagnostict when I have actually just done the service in November 09 which cost Ł450 just to change oil and brake pad. I would have thought they would have noticed something then, especially when I mentioned the noise to them. But they said, they didn't get a chance to drive it to find out.
If it was a CV boot then, they would have noticed.
    Any thought?
    Anyone?

    Johann

its either a cv joint or top mount by the sounds of it

i would find a VW/Audi specialist to look at it for you, they will be much cheaper!

it won't be the cv boot, that just covers the joint and keeps the grease in,

I got the same problem a vibration that start's at 70 and get louder and quicker as speed build's up if i take it out of gear it still does it when i brake it doesnt shudder so i dont think its a warped disc ive changed the left cv joint still doing it ..

I injected greese into the right boot incase the cv joint was dry and still effing vibrate's im taking it into a garage tommorrow and im either thinking it could be ball joint , Inner cv joint's or bent driveshaft although audi says there ok ....

Just because ive not got original audi alloys on mine they are more or less saying there nothing they can do unless i spend alot of money , What a farse so im taking it to a garage i know and il let you know iff i find out ...

Because your is happening whilst your turnin it sound's like a wheel bearing to me , deffo

I am not sure that your problem is similar to mine.
Mine did sound as if something rattling or crushing as I turn to the right, it got louder this week, so loud it was really worrying as if something was going to snap or fall off.
This morning I took it to the garage, after 15 minutes on the motorway at 70, the noise stopped. Usually at 40 I barely can hear anything on a straight line. Weir
When I got to the garage, the lad had to make a serious right turn (in circle) to hear a slight rattle.
He had look at it. The CV boot aren't damaged and he is under the impression that something is broken in the left CV joint.
At 40000 miles, a broken cv joint? How? Why?
He callled Audi for the part, Ł60.00 + VAT, and said that it was weird because it was cheap.
He couldn't give me a price because he had to have a look at the new prices and he will call me later at the beginning of next week.
Me think, he is trying to make a bit of money on the part.

Do I have to go to a Audi specialist or can anyone replace the left CV joint?

I got to speak to the dealer, or should i say service manager in Liverpool.
    the part Ł102+VAT
He explained that they only charge Ł99+vat for diagnostic if you don't go with them.
What I am pissed off about is , that in January 2008, while the car was under warranty, they replaced the CV boot during a service. Apparently faulty and Audi knew about it.
In october 2009 the same part went faulty and now my CV joint is shot. Funny , isn't it?
So basically I find myself having to replace the CV joint on a part which was supposed to be replaced and fixed 2 years ago.
Even funnier is that I had my last service done in November 2009, but their engineer did not see any leaks at the time.

Can a CV joint be noisy or faulty while the the CV boot is fine and does not leak?
Basically, that is what the service manager was saying.

Is driveshaft selling genuine Audi parts?
    What is the web address?
