Hi Folks

Someone hit the rear of my A3 Sportback 2.0TDI (2004) 140bhp
Just above my exhaust, centimeters away.

Sine the accident my engine management light has come on.
Took it to the repair centre who advised its problem with my egr valve or its sensors.

This only occured since the other vehicle hit me in the rear.

Third party admitted liability for the repairs to the body but will not repair my egr valve problems.
They are saying that Engine Management Light has nothing to do with rear impact but EGR is connected to the exhuast where the impact occured.

How do I prove that impact to the rear of my vehicle done this please?

Thanks

Easy, take pics of the damage, but tbh I have to agree how can the rear impact affect your egr if you have no other issues, I mean the exhaust is fitted directly to the cat & turbo if its same setup as mine so does seem very strange for this to happen, have you scanned the car as yet to ascertain the error 1st?

I took it to an MOT centre and they advised the code was an EGR valve problem, they didnt give me an error number.

Get someone on here to scan for you mate, link in my sig will help there, alternatively you could buy vagcom from me for yourself to use to scan the car when you like.

Sorry but unless the rear shunt was enough to dislodge a pipe off your EGR which is fitted to the engine there is no way a rear impact could damage the EGR really as it is fitted to the air inlet system nothing to do with the exhaust.

I thought it was connected to the exhaust, seeing it's a Exhaust gas recycling valve?

I suppose it's possible the impact casused a vibration.. Was the exhaust itself get hit? Then it is possible assuming a million other things are just so.

It is more likely a sad coincidence.
