hi i have recently taken my car to my local vag specialist with a knocking when going over rough terrain. he has checked all the bushes etc but couldnt find any problems. so he thinks it must be the suspension struts as he cannot replicate there movement on the ramp.
my question is does anyone no of any problems which would cause these symptoms and if i replace the suspension if it different on different models engine sizes etc.
any help would be great thanks

Milltaky exhausts bang on the floor given half a chance ?

have standard exhaust mate. it sounds like its coming form the front suspension but i have my doubts if the shocks would cause it to knock over rough ground. also will the shocks be different on different models

Had similar, knocks on setting off and over rough ground and found out it was the front propshaft joint between the grearbbox and the Haldex that was well and truly FUBAR'd. Basically anything that put some slack in the drive train caused the joint to knock heavily, felt and sounded like suspension...

Sounds interesting, how easy a change is that joint?

Are the rear pads the correct size, had a mate who had a focus and had a knocking noise took us weeks to work out it was coming from the brakes, kwick fit had fitted the wrong rear brake pads which were slightly too small and therefore knocked when going over any bumps. Just a thought.

No idea how easy the joint is to change but that , service and new front suspension bushes plus 4 wheel align was going to come to just under £1000 but as Id bought the car from Preston Audi and they had always serviced it the stood 40% of the bill... alot of people on here seam to konck the dealers but Ive got nothing but praise for the lads at Preston Audi... A couple of days after Id had it in a coil pack gave up the ghost (50k or so old) and they swaped it foc....
