I have the standard exhaust on my 3.2 A3 and at the moment it's pretty filthy, with what looks like thick black soot around the outer tips. I tried cleaning it up with just an old rag and some warm water but that hasnt helped much, I thought about brillo pads or something of that ilk but thought they may be too abrasive.

I noticed in quite a few pics on here a lot of you guys have shiny tail pipes (oo er)... any tips on how best to clean up an exhaust?

I use a clean cloth and a paste I used on my bike. the brand is Yoshimura, it works fine

got some autosol from halfrauds, works pretty well.

Wirewool + Autosol =

Then you can use Megs NXT Polish followed by Blackfire Metal Sealant
