    Hi Marty,

I think it will be one of the fuses has blown.

I think the fuse for the IMF and the Fan is the same, and is found on top of the battery.

What caused it to blow is another thing!

    aye mate, fuse has blown.
fault cleared, fuse replaced, switched on engine, light came back on after 5 mins!!!
do you think it might have anything to do with this cold spell?
flap frozen solid, or something similar???

    Marty,
It could be a frozen flap. But I'd be surprised, I'm sure VW spent millions cold weather testing - but then judging by all their other faults with this engine I wouldn't be too sure.

I think the flap is a reasonably common faulty component.

It might be worth determining whether its the flap our the fan causing the fuse to blow. Try unplugging the flap, replacing the fuse and see if the fuse blows again. The flap is only used to stop the engine when you key off or if the engine runs away with itself, so the engine should run OK with it disconnected (but you will still get the fault code).

I think you may have to replace the flap unit (I think I read somewhere that GSF or EuroCarParts can source these?).

    Good Luck
