    Faulty Catalytic Converter Q's

After the rattle my cars been making, I took it to the garage to see what they said.

Boosted the car up, had a little look and said its the cat.

Gave me a quote of 450 fitted. I'm not too worried as I have warranty, and all I pay is a small excess fee.

My question is, is it okay to drive around whilst the cat is still faulty? Will it cause any damage to any other parts?

And, if I scanned the car using VAG-COM, would the cat show as being faulty?

    Thanks,

Is the cat definitely covered under warranty? All good if it is.

Can't see it damaging anything else at all.

Think the guy might have just said that so I would agree with the repair asap.

Yeah, got Gold cover, just checked the documents.

Are there any "side effects" to having a faulty cat.. other than low emissions? Bad MPG or anything?

    Thansk again

*sigh*.. so the cats not covered on the warranty, an optional extra apparantly.

Looks like I'm gonna have to reach into my RNS-E fund.

I've found the cat for pretty cheap online, would have to fit myself.

Let me know if that one looks okay..

I did wonder... most warranties do exclude them.

Speak to these guys for a price: http://onlineautomotive.co.uk/

they're often very cheap for cats.

Thanks again mate... would an option to de-cat be a cheaper option, or would this be an MOT failure?

MOT failure, as cats required on cars after Aug 92 (K plate).
