    Burst Bubble........!!!!!!!!!!

    Well I was seriously thinking about getting a Stage 3 from AmD, until I was chatting with a few guys from the R32 forum.

    The guys who have had the Stage 3 were only getting between 269 - 275 bhp....

    2300 for the Stage 3 and not even for an extra 30bhp...I think not..!!

    Standard for the 3.2 is 246bhp so I wonder what the stage 1 will produce then... Probably 260 bhp MAXIMUM

    Back to the drawing board I guess

    bolt a turbo on the gains would be much more

    Its not all about BHP, the way the car drives and picks up will be dramaticly different.

    Also iirc stage 3 isn't just software, there are parts involved, exhaust, filter etc

    Cams as well but the power is shifted to mid range and top end according to AmD....
    Not sure I'll be using top end in the UK

    Yea N8 but if you could hear my V6 with my new Remus pipe.....you wouldnt swop that for a turbo :-) Playing tunes on it yesterday at 5-7k revs with the paddles on a fast deserted A road and i want this car to have my children

    I would swop it for a turbo or bolt one one it. A mate of mine has a 3.2 R32 which looks nice,sounds nice but has no go and is really slow to drive but then at least it has a smooth power band and she likes it ....

    If a 3.2 is not fast enough for you on British roads you could always try growing up

    To be honest, I need to go in a R32/3.2 A3, I went in the Mk4 R32, but my friend who owned it didn't let me drive and didn't have a f'in clue how to drive it properly......I love the sound of big turbo'd cars man. My cousin's mk1 TT 350bhp big turbo, with 3" full exhaust and wastegate just sounds like heaven I like turbos because big power is cheap (Relatively ).......

    Still trying to sort the remap, my ECU will not accept the new map, getting an error code "invalid address". Waiting on the software firm in Italy to get back to us.

    Hmmm keep me informed.

    Also to the guys saying an R32/3.2 is too slow, what are you used to driving? I honestly think it's fast enough for the UK roads. Not keen on turbo power delivery makes me drive fast all the time....

    I recon if you drove an R32 full wack everywhere alot would run out of skill before the car ran out of go....

    Some adults like quicker cars too, you know. To enjoy a more powerful car, you don't have to be driving like an idiot at dangerous speeds. I can think of a lot of roads where it simply isn't possible to drive at the limit, but have such good visibility that you can happily get up to the maximum safe speed (which is well below the posted limit) very quickly in a powerful car without causing any danger to either other road users or yourself.

    To think that you have to be driving like a lunatic to enjoy a powerful car (as you appear to be implying) is just plain wrong.

    It depends on the car, but in a car like an A3, probably, yes. They may be quick, but they're hardly the most exciting car to drive, are they? The fact that they're so easy to drive quickly, means that you need more power to have the same level of fun.

    A car like an mx5 with 150bhp would be more than powerful enough for most people to have fun, even though it would be far slower.

    The way I was thinking is the g/f used to have a sportka (dont laugh!) and I think that skill wise I was upto driving that on the edge of what that car could give. Yes accelerating in a stright line a 3.2 or S3 is faster but is that fun?

    Miss having a car that had that feeling of being on the edge without going silly speeds.

    It looks like we both think the same about that then, that's pretty much what I just said about the mx5. But like I said, in an A3/S3, even 250-300bhp doesn't make a really exciting car, but the extra power helps you accelerate out of the corners faster (well before you get to the straights) which makes it more fun.

    I think the A3 is far too heavy to a real fun car and i think the handling is the weak point before the lack of power,

    I never get to the limit of the Audi so find it fast a-b but not as much fun...

    I love my car especially the DSG but i'm just after a little punchier on acceleration that's all...

    So i'm waiting to see what Paddy thinks to his stage 1 before I make a move..!!!

    3.2 with decent cams and mapped accordingly makes for a cracking engine...with a noise and throttle response that turbo conversions can't match...and the outright power is about right for the chassis too.
    It's a lovely - if a little expensive - conversion.

    If you track the car then yes.

    Mine is a daily driver for road use so sliding isnt my thing at all.
    Use able power is more my thing. I prefer to convert the bhp into moving forward not sideways

    If I wanted the sideway experience it would be RWD anyway.
    Ive been lucky enough to drive an E46 and more recently E92 M3 and I can certainly see the appeal.

    Well, maybe a giggle once in a while but it probably wouldnt be a criteria in deciding what car to buy.
    But I guess that depends on driving style, habits, what roads you use regularly etc....
    Used the wifes Yaris last week for a day and didnt like being in the `edge of traction` at all!

    Combined with a Milltek, the noise on the R32 is amazing...
    The throttle response brilliant...and the pull from 5000+ stunning.
    It may not sound like much of a gain, compared to 60+ BHP for a 400 remap...but if you like revvy, big capacity NA engines...it's sublime.
    It's how it should have come from the factory.

    I'm not sure how AmDs mapping is against Stealths...but the car that Vince mapped for my mate after fitting the Schricks, has transformed it.

    Out of interest i see Gary has a DSG, given the A3 3.2s fondness for destroying cam chains, DMF and the limit on the DSG box do you think this still a good idea ?

    Just been doing abit of research on the R32 forum on the timing chains...

    Just one example....Timing chain snapped at 44k ruined the head etc...New engine from VW 5k or 4200 for VW to repair old engine....BUT VW stated that they won't pay anything towards it after their technicians looked over the engine...!!!!!!!!!

    Do I really want to keep this car....Mine has done 46k on an 05 plate...I really don't want to mod it now and put extra strain on the chains....

    Bubble well and truly burst...Or am i been paranoid.....

    I have no direct experience of ownership....but wasn't aware of the cam chain issue, although I'm sure it would be prudent to have the cam chains and tensioners changed when the cams are being swapped, if there are concerns.

    I've never come accross a V6 that's caused DMF issues - chipped TDIs perhaps, but the peak torque and torque delivery of the V6 shouldn't worry a DFM.

    And the DSG shouldn't be bothered about it either...if they are happy with heavily remapped S3s making 350+ BHP and similar torque, I can't see a cam'd V6 giving it too much agro.

    But, you'd probably need the DSG re-mapping to make best use of the new found top end power.

    If in doubt, fit new chains.
    OK...it's not cheap and you need to whil the 'box off to do it...but it's cheaper than a new engine.

    The trouble with the internet is that you mostly hear the bad stuff shouted loudest...of the lads I know with V6s 2.8, 2.9, 3.2, 12v and 24v, I've never actually come accross anyone having cam chain problems...and some of these engines are revving to 7500 regularly.
