Hi my cars a 2004 audi a3 1.6 FSI which i believe is the 16v unit ?

It has 76k on the clock and is 5 years old, i have spent a good hour researching this and I think im right in saying its due for a change (aswell as the water pump as it makes sence to do them at the same time)

Now its very easy to source parts for a 1.6i (8v) i.e timing belt & tensioner kit .. but finding a specific A3 1.6 FSI kit is proving quite difficult and the nearest ive found is on ebay which is listed as a 1.6 FSI Audi A2 timing belt kit ? Now i have no idea if the engines are exactly the same etcetc...

So to make me life easier :detective2: Could any of you help with the following questions.. :readit:

1. How much should I be looking to pay for a cambelt & water pump fitted and supplied

2. How much should I be looking to buy just the parts for ? Is it cheaper to source them my self? If so where from

3. Am i right in thinking the timing belt will be due? And without an invoice (ive had the car 3 weeks) is there any way you can tell if its already been done?

I hope one of you audi enthusiasts can help me cause im actually scared of driving it after reading a few horror stories ...

Worst part is ive just spent a grand on it in the past week (alloys and coillies), without the knowledge of knowing this needed to be done :sign_omg::asskicking:Epic Fail IMO as xmas is coming up and ive made my self skint lol

Well at the dealers you are looking it £400 ish including the waterpump the other option is to buy the cambelt and tensioner kit plus the waterpump from somewhere like Eurocarparts if you know someone who can do the job for you, but i would get it done as soon as it is 5 years or 60,000 miles whichever is sooner, you could also ring Audi Uk and give them your reg number and if it has already been done at the dealer they will be able to tell you.

I recently dome the timing belt on mine, came in at £150 supplied and fitted for the 2.0 FSI if that helps.

I paid £95 for the timing belt and tensioner kit plus the waterpump and paid £100 labour to have it fitted at my local garage mine is also a 2.0 fsi sport

I had that same problem as you I rang the local independent up and booked it in for a service and timing belt water pump change found out that 1.6fsi is on a timming chain which should last the life of the engine

Ok I'm not too sure on this but i think amd does it for £200 if I'm correct if your not familiar with it get a garage (specialist) to do it for you. And also aren't the FSI's chain driven? I took mine for a change and found out that it was chain driven therefore worse case you may just want it realigned or something if of course there is a problem.
