hi there,

left the engine running today while fixing stuff in the boot, then realised

there was strong petrol smell from the exhaust. the car was bought from

main dealer 2 weeks ago, with 16k on the clock.

Can I ask it is normal? should I take it to the dealer to have a look?

thanks a lot

pretty normal I'd say. The overfuelling on a cold morning (under what used to be termed as being 'on choke') will mean unburned fuel will be slung through the system if it's sat at idle.

I'm sure I read in the manual somewhere that you shouldn't leave it sat too long when warming up unless it visibility is so bad (eg. defrosting windscreen) that it is unsafe to drive it.

Hi thanks for your replies, the engine was warm

temp dial was in the middle 90 degree and I drove a few miles

so the engine should run at optimised condition ,

the smell was so strong gave me a headache , normally I love the smell of petrol. :)

Suggest it may be worth getting it checked as if you have a leak or it's significantly over duelling both have associated risks.
