Can these be obtained threw vagcom if you have the serial from the headunit?

Nope. Only from a dealer. And not all of them will do it without seeing the car.

Just phone around and ask if they'll do it over the phone. Some want to charge a fiver I think. Others more.

There's a thread about it somewhere in 8P, have a search about for the proper answers.

i know that, but i know what stealers(dealers) are like with charging.

just fancy changing my symphony headunit for something better but dont want to pay a fortune.
