Looking in to buying a car from Jersey, anyone ever done this before? I'm pretty sure it's going to be classed as an import but what implications does this have? I have checked insurance and it seems to be exactly the same price as a normal UK car, should I be concerned about anything else?

yea im talking second hand, seems it was imported from germany to the UK (as all audis are) then to Jersey then back to the UK (2 owners), its listed as an import, exactly the spec I want, hmmmm! thanks for the link

You are probably liable for import duty or VAT.

I know that bringing cars in from the USA attracts import duty for used cars up to 10 years old but not over.

For new cars, you'll be liable to pay UK VAT (as I was when I bought an Alfa in Holland) - you pay the tax of the country of registration, not the country of purchase.

But I realise that you're planning to buy used - and that the car has already been in the UK - so you might be OK but you do need to check customs liability before you commit...
