my a3 has been making a odd noise when i start it not every time but usually when i havent driven in for a few hours its like a rattle noise from the engine

i was guessing starter motor but if its a rattle..then it could be something to do with your mounts.. does the engine rock alot?
then again like staz says post a video or give a better description this would eliminate the guessing games

il try get a vid of it it only happens when its slightly cold, it was fine today becuase its walm. itonly lasts few seconds bbut ill try get a vid

you used to get clattery noises off sticky bucket shims especially on cold engines. Dont seem to hear of that nowadays much though. Drive belt tensioners/water pumps can make noises when cold too.
