Cost of a new turbo fitted?

hi, as some of you may know, my turbo has went
now the garage has told me that the cheapest they can get me a new turbo for is Ł1000, so plus fitting im going to be out of pocket by about Ł1500.
im no expert in these matters, but that does seem slightly expensive to me!
    what do you guys think?
    cheers
    marty

You would be near enough cheaper doing a turbo upgrade for that money!

I am not overly sure though on those prices - who quoted you?

I managed to get mine done for Ł600 all in. Got a recon turbo from Turbo Solutions for Ł380 in exchange for the broken one that was on my car and the a local garage fitted it for Ł220.

Drawback of fitting uprated turbo would be the need for a new uprated clutch

I've been quoted around Ł750 for a recon turbo including labour. Thats from an Audi independant garage in West Mids. That is for a 2.0TDI.

I have been told that Audi main dealers will charge btween Ł1400 to Ł2200 for a new turbo.
    Regards,

    Matt

Audi are v expensive for turbo replacement out of warranty, in the order of Ł2,200. You can get a new turbo for about Ł350 on exchange from t'interweb and pay a good mechanic about 4-6 hours work to fit it.

I got a spare Turbo now

its reconditioned and was put on the car but never run because i bought a brand new one which turned up a day after this one arrived.

They wont take it back either as i fitted it to the car but i wanted the new one on as opposed to the recondtiioned one.

Ł300 if anyone wants it :D

It's for the 2.0 TDI model (my engine code is BKD) - i can get the part no if anyone needs it!

It's not 4 hours - we fitted 2 turbos to mine in less than 4 hours.

To change the turbo over will take around 2 hours if you have he right tools:

8 bolts, 2 bolts hold the heat sheild, 4 bolts on the metal pipe, exhaust downpipe off, air pipe off, oil pipe off and theres a skinny black pipe!

Change 3 gaskets (exhaust manifold and the two on either side of the metal pipe) and screw it back on.

Its easier if you take te driveshaft out too (5 min job)

My mechanic and i done mine in around 2hours with air tools and we serviced it too and We also cleaned out the oil pipe and the intercooler.

It's not really a hard job - just fidley and a tight sqeeze!
