    boost pipe

thought i would start a new thread due to lack of replies no the the original!!!
    http://audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=70464

anyway, was wondering, as i have a slight leak, is there anyway of making a better airtight seal where the boost pipe connects into the turbo housing. apparently the lugs have worn on the turbo side, meaning that even with a new boost pipe on, there is still a slight leak!

does anyone know of anything to help with the seal?

    cheers!

If its the pipe that goes there, it would instantly blew off with the presure if it wasnt attached properly so the holders should be ok if thepipe doesnt blow off.

as for the seal, did you replace the seal when the turbo pipe was replaced. maybe a new seal with some oil to double seal it should do the job.

Maybe some knd of seal-tight glue?

Yes I agree with you Kaz, the seal is a 3C0 145 117 it might be worth a try changing the seal. If its still making the noise I would guess a turbo. We have changed loads in here for making noises. Very common problem.

when you say, changed loads of turbos for making noises, do you mean this problem that i have or other noises?

and, what is a general ball park figure for the changing of a turbo, ie. new turbo and labour costs?

    thanks

The usuall 'siren' type noise and excessive whistling. Alot of money through an Audi dealer. I know the turbo alone is over 1k as they don't list an exchange part number. Im sure you could source a recon elsewhere for less and get it fitted for under 1k.

Going back to the seal, if they replaced the hose then that will come with a new seal already on it.

Just make sure the seal isnt pinched and put on right - that should do the job.

If the mechanic is taking it off to take a look, you my as well replace it tbh.

What makes you think there's a leak though?

had the engine pressure tested at a diesel engine specialist, and that was the only place there was a slight leak.
fitter explained to me how the connecting 'lugs' can wear on both the pipe and the turbo housing and he says that its on the turbo side this time, which would have been caused by the lugs on the pipe side being worn the last time and moving back and forwards continually!

overtime at work has been stopped for the moment and baby on the way, so warranty is my only hope of getting turbo done!!!

Im sure The metal clip on the turbo side which holds the hose in can be bought separately. They list a part number under the turbo number which just has a description with no pic. I will find out if this is the one tomorrow when im at work. 1J0145769F is the number for the clip, checked with another dealer who had it in stock

so do you think that replacing this clip on the turbo side will eliminate the leak and if so, what is the cost of this clip please?
    cheers!
