1.6 vs 1.6FSI whats the difference?

sorry for a silly question, but what's the difference between a 1.6 and a 1.6 FSI? besides more bhp i think the insurance group is higher on the FSI as far as i recall the 1.6 is a 9/10 ins group.
any info will be much appreaciated

    thanks

I think he FSi is just an improved version of the non FSi 1.6. Think I read somewhere the FSi uses the same engine block but everything else has been improved to give better economy, more power and things. I think it's that anyway. I might be wrong.

FSi is Fuel Stratified Injection if I remember rightly which was designed originally for the Le Mans cars. I think the biggest benefit will be in the economy, the only question is if you have to thrash it so hard to take that advantage away in the 8P.

FSI is VAG's version of direct fuel injection, where fuel is injected directly into the top of the cylinder (like a diesel engine), the other has fuel introduced into the inlet port (also known as port injection) with the air for combustion. Direct fuel injection is said to be more efficient, produces less emissions, and can run the engine in ultra lean mode (=more air, less fuel!).

Most companies have their own version of DI and they all work in a similar way.
