UK A3 with German style pressed plates,

Show us your pics! I'd love to see what they look like with pressed plates on, so I know wether or not to put them on mine.

    Cheers, Dan.

They look great - shame you can't drive on the road with them as they're not legal in the UK (and the letter/number spacing is illegal too). You'll get fined if plod see's you on the road with them ...

The plates look quite nice, but spoiled by being made illegal by the incorrect spacing and that fact that they do not comply with UK number plate regulations.

I'm a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme co-ordinator and my police contact told me the other day that in a 'crackdown day' near where I live they booked 20 cars in one day for having illegal plates. All were given a 60 fine and a Notice to have the plates changed within 7 days.

I've had illegal plates on my cars for around 7 years now, cant remember ever having a legal set! never been pulled for them yet.

if you like them, whats the problem with a 30 fine anyway, thats only a night in the pub!

    LOL of the day!

Not being funny but where I live... East London... The Police have got better things to do than cracking down on illegal plates or anything else like that.

I tint my windows a bit below legal and I'll be going for some of these german plates when my S3 turns up but again... it's how far you take it. If you are fully blacked out with some crazy lettering/obvious modification of letters then yeah expect problems. If you are just a little off... you might just be ok.

Mikey, its a downward slope from now on, next you will be downloading MP3's off the internet and creating your own CD's whilst not paying the artist a single penny to his/her drug habit. Oh the horror!

My brother's six year old was hit by a car with illegal plates and they failed to stop. Thankfully he was not hurt too badly... the police had a nightmare tracking down the driver as none of the witnesses were able to give the reg number accurately - the knob driving the car had moved the letters together and had an italic font. If that doesn't spell it out...

Reason two - ANPR cameras have trouble reading these dick heads illegal plates - Essex and Cambridge Police are currently really clamping down on anyone they see with an illegal plate. Chances are, anyone who thinks driving with an illegal plate is harmless and perfectly OK will be guilty of a few other things as well... that's the rationale the police are now using... ... so if you wanna get pulled up and pay a fine... hey, might even see you on Police Interceptors

Sorry to hear about your brothers child, but that doesnt automatically mean everyone driving around with these plates are the same does it? I think the biggest part of the problem there is he didnt stop, not what type of plates he had on. Also, are mine not readable?? I think they perfectly are.

Ive gone over this subject over and over and over again on this site and the nitpickers LOVE to make a meal out of it for some internet forum fame.

    Not all the time

Although at least once a day I come across a cyclist that needs running over - not that I've done that of course, got enough scratches already

Dubmeister do UK Legal pressed plates. There not too dissimilar in style to the German ones but obviously you can't have the stadt seals.

Perhaps you need to move and live in Guernsey. They still use the old style black and silver plates as well as the reflective ones.

I must say that having recently come back from Guersey at night and followed some Guernsey registered cars out of Weymouth and onto the M27 and M3 it certainly shows up the advantage of reflective rear plates. Those with normal UK style plates showed up much better than the Guernsey ones, even though everyone had their rear lights on.

Not much fun having a cobra in Guernsey as the overall speed limit is 35mph and 25mph in built up areas. Could be very frustrating!!!

There are not many roads on Guernsey when you could do fast speeds. Most are quite narrow with stone walls on either side. The more 'main' roads are only just wide enough for two vehicles to pass. Even my A3 felt a little over-sized at times. Perhaps that's why most of the hire cars are Ka's or Fiesta's.

Perhaps on the airport runway at night until you were arrested!!!

Interestingly when I was in Guernsey last week I was reading one of the local papers and a lady was in court for speed (no fixed penalties by all accounts) She was caught doing 60mph in a built-up area and he was fined and had his licence taken away 3 months.

If the police Number Plate Recognition cameras stop drivers with no driving licence or insurance from driving on our roads then I'm all for them. If that also means we have to have 'legal' number plates then so be it. I have a personal plate, but I don't try and make it into something it isn't.

I wonder how long you would get away with driving a German car, registered in German on UK style plates. Mind you I'm not sure any German driver would be stupid enough to even try it.
