    S3 Tuning - Custom Code

    Hi there,

I recently purchased an 8P S3 and love it to bits!

However, I would like to have it remapped with perhaps a tbe milltek and maybe dblias intake...

I have done lots of searching of threads etc.. and was just wondering if I could encounter fueling issues as I have been told that the sofware would be stage 2...oh and I intend on using Custom Code from motorwerks in Aberdeen

Are you having fuel cuts?? Can this damage your engine seriously, I mean I know that its not good, but can it make some severe damages??
Because i have the APR stg2 and im having fuel problems between 4-6.5 k and those cuts tend to damage my spark plugs very fast. however im resolving this problem by placing the APR HPFP and than no worrys, but im interested in how severly can this damage my engine??

So is your APR pump shagged then ?
If so that's not too good is it for a 800 pump ?

No, I havent mounted the pump yet, will be on next week I think. Im having fuel cuts with the stock pump now. yes thats the 800 pump, but I think its worth it, as I drove the S3 with the APR HPFP and APR stg2+ and it was much better than mine now running on stock pump and stg 2 remap.

Ah I'm with you now mate - I thought it was your APR which was cutting out.
I've got the Autotech pump on mine - just wait til you feel the difference. The stock pump is obviously not up to the job if you're remapped.

I'm running Custom Code Stage 2 mate,no problems so far.

I used to run GIAC with the hammer file, but ran into all sorts of problems once i replaced my exhaust with a custom one (not so much of a problem with Milltek though)
To cut a long story short,i went to Custom Code, had the Autotech pump fitted because of fuelling issues, then the new map was put on with pump specific software, and now i'm a very happy bunny indeed.
I'm also using an induction kit - Forge,so it's all working hunky dory,oh,and the Forge diverter valve too.
Fuel economy seems about the same.

Rolling road figures are 340.8 bhp,301ft/lbs torque, which although i was a little disappointed with, still drives brilliantly - the power delivery is very smooth.
The guys at CustomCode/JBS said i could have about another 40ft/lbs torque, but it wouldn't feel so nice to drive.

Food for thought: running this type of power will probably give you clutch slip....
..it seems that a lot of guys on here have had to have both clutch and DMF replaced/upgraded,myself included.

    Happy modding!

Yep - if you go Stage 2+ with the fuel pump you should budget for a Sachs clutch upgrade and new DMF.
But God its worth it !

    Thanks for your help!!...much appreciated..

How much for a sachs clutch inc. fitting?...and whats a DMF??

will the engine mounts and diverter valve need replacing also as the tuner (Motorwerks)in Aberdeen has not mentioned this too me?

    Sachs clutch = 1k
DMF = Dual Mass Flywheel (as opposed to Single Mass Flywheel) - do a search for loads of info on this
Mounts & DV - not sure why you'd "need" to change these. Optional mods these.

    ...Ditto

...no need to change them, but every little helps! As Iggu said about the flywheel,do a search on the engine mounts and diverter valve, and if you've the money,go spend! (or give to me?)

Is the clutch definately an issue...i.e. do they always slip with this level of tune?

Not sure I want to go and replace the clutch also after paying 25k for the car!!

    thanks again fro the help

You might be one of the lucky ones, and get away with it,but,as mentioned before, there are a number of peeps running in excess of 330 bhp that are having problems. I'm 'only' pushing just over 300ft/lbs torque, but that was enough to give me the dreaded slip once i'd changed from GIAC to CustomCode phase 2 - no point in having all that power and not being able to plant your right foot!
Plenty of remaps/TBE/uprated fuel pump combo's are pushing out even more torque, and it's the torque that's the problem with OEM clutches...they just don't have the clamping pressure to cope.

I'd suggest having the clutch replaced before it starts to slip, then at least you'll be saving yourself the additional costs of replacing a DMF as well?

It might be worth someone posting a poll about clutch slip after remapping?
then at least you can make your judgement call based on peeps experience

Most if not all tuners recommend changing the DMF and clutch together,so you would almost certainly end up with both being done,as the clutch and flywheel both wear.

I've been lucky as well,so far, with 360lbs of torque through the stock clutch, and whilst I'm reasonably kind to the clutch,it does get a bit of work sometimes.

Obviously,if/when it goes,I'll replace it with the Sachs.

    - agreed, isn't that usually after clutch slip is experienced though? ie damage already done to the DMF
I was figuring that as Dazeroo's car prob hasn't done too many miles (he says he paid 25k for it) ....and it's still running stock figures/no engine mods, then his DMF should be in pretty good shape?

I'd expect so,but without taking it apart I guess you wouln't be able to tell.

Mine was stock until about 7000 miles from new,and has gone from Stage1 to Stage2+ in the time between.

Since just before Xmas, and Stage2+ for a couple of months now.

From standard, going to Stage2/2+ is a vast improvement and is pretty much where the car should have been in the first place.

Its better balanced and the extra torque is what's really important,as most of us tend to use the midband torque as opposed to hanging on for the last 1000rpm until the red line.

I've had problems with a misfire at 6300rpm and hopefully narrowing it down to an injector problem so hopefully will be able to sort that as well.

Very expensive.....last car I felt the need to do this sort of thing to cost me an absolute fortune in suspension rebuilds thanks to rosejoints, and even more in servicing.

The S3 is a lot more conservatively done and so far hasn't cost too much, but the next thing would be suspension mods...

Erm...grin inducing! It just wants to go,floor it in any gear and the results are the same....i swear if it had wings it would fly. If you're motorway cruising at speeds above the limit and want to get out of the way of that blue flashing light thats slowly been creeping up on you, there's no need to drop a gear, just blip the accelerator and she seriously pulls... and the noise it now produces gets heads turning, not loud, just mean.

Switching back to stock (which i did with the GIAC) and it feels sooo sllloooooooooowwww

Switching back to stock (which i did with the GIAC) and it feels sooo sllloooooooooowwww[/quote]

i am just waiting for the call now to take the car in...mods as following

    Dbilas Intake
    Milltek TBE
    Custom Code Stage Two
    Fuel Pump (internals replacement only)

    Cost 2400

I can't wait!...i wonder how the dealer in Aberdeen would view these mods???

With any luck, the only thing they'll see is the intake, but if they're anything like my dealer, that will be enough to induce a severe attack of warranty avoidance.

the dealer will definately see the intake as I'm going to lose the engine cover although you can get an oem look replacement apparently....

Aint they about 200 , lm sure the dealer will notice it. But theres a european rule states that you can put what you like on , parts wise, as long as its of the same quality or better. But this might change in 2010. Just read this the other day.

Please can some one explain the difference between stage2 and stage2+ software?
Im currently running Stage1 APR with decat.
But very shortly going to put FORGE CAI,76mm Down-Pipe and custom stage 2 software.
Will I have clutch problems because of increased power?
Will I also suffer fuel cuts? Those mods are pretty much all my budget can handle atm..
so these are concerns for me :/

My understanding is that stage 2 is remap plus Exhaust/intake, stage 2+ is with HPFP added.

You may experience fuel cuts above 4,000 rpm so be a good idea to budget for autotech internals, regal are currently selling them for 300 delivered.

Yes, you will be having problems with clutch slipping. Do not go over a stage 2 map without changing your clutch for a Sachs Racing one, otherwise you will risk having to change your flywheel too.
My advice is to buy the assembly without single mass flywheel, because this becomes very noisy after 10k km, or less...
